How much primer & top coat assuming three coats each would you expect to use on a boat like this? Really like your videos - just wondering how many imperfections you (or the owners) expect painting outside compared to inside or erecting a tent over the boat and using extraction? Presumably you'd spot repair any bug landings for example?

Nice Job. Frankie! Im curious about what you do about keeping water condensation build up out your paint system. Va. gets pretty hot and humid in the summer. I'm on the fence as to weather I want to spray or roll

So the the boat is from Va Beach and your denatured alcohol is from eastern burlap tells me you are working in my neck of the woods. I live in va beach va and get all my supply’s from eastern burlap. I’m building a 24 ft albemarle and will be ready for paint in a bout 2 months I will do all the prep if you want to do a video painting my boat.

Hey Frankie, what exactly are you using to fix the deep scratches and gauges after sanding with 120? I have a 2003 17ft Carolina Skiff that has lots of deep gauges. What is best to use to fill? Thanks.
@boatpaintingrestorationwit30294 жыл бұрын
Awlfair. It’s great stuff with plenty of working time. 2 part epoxy 👌
@boatpaintingrestorationwit30294 жыл бұрын
It usually takes 3 applications to get it right. Glaze it tight each time. Then after priming change up to the 3 m premium filler ( vinyl Lester ) then finish off with the 3m acryl glazing putty. After that you’re ready for paint 👌
@chrissmollen31904 жыл бұрын
@@boatpaintingrestorationwit3029 Do you need to mix it or use it straight out of container.

Chris Smollen mix it. It’s 1to1/ half and half. It’s the best stuff to use in my opinion

Another great instructional. Many thanks for sharing and hi from Australia. Can I ask how you estimate quantity of paint for a job?
@boatpaintingrestorationwit30294 жыл бұрын
I guess most of the time. Lol. 40 ft or less = a gallon. ( cheapest to buy a gallon in the long run) Anything over. Get two gallons to be safe.

I've never seen vinyl stripe come off that easily (at least in the UK). Normally you have to use a heat gun and then every few inches the vinyl snaps it's become so brittle over time. 4 hours to do 30 foot boat to get one stripe off :p

Hey Frankie - Quick question. Is the thumb test between coats only for Awlgrip paints or can it be used for other brands? I'll be using Epifanes Monourethane and they say wait 24 hours betwwen coats and then sand with 400. I don't see you that in any of your videos. Thanks in advance.
