One of our members recently sent in a photo of a coastal scene at Hythe in Kent, and it got quite a lot of positive comments on the member's forum, particularly about the light and the dramatic sky.
With this in mind I decided it would make an excellent tutorial.
In addition to the quality of light and the big sky I also liked the way the various elements in the scene like the boats, weathered huts and strip of ocean, all reinforce the perspective creating a composition that draws the viewer in.
A great project for painting a big wet into wet sky which contrasts with the dry-brushwork and texture on the beach, and of course I never tire of painting boats and sheds.
Happy Painting,
Geoff.
