Boat:
White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built.
The camera gear:
Main camera is a Canon 220d with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached.
Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. I also use an Insta 360 and have two drones, a Magic mini2 and Mavic pro
Editing:
Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff!
There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access.
Content:
I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining.
Comments and being at sea:
I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.

Cutting the anchor free was called slipping the cable. In old sailing ships it was done often, but a float was attached so the ship could return and pick up its anchor after the danger had passed. Keep an old fender in your chain locker.

I don't keep up with Barry's "real-time" platforms, but the AIS shows White Shadow in a marina in Darwin for the the last approx. 3 months. The marina is not far from a major airport. Speculating here that Barry done took a trip somewhere. Again, I don't follow his real time platforms. 😎 Had to come back and comment on his "out-of-water" bilge, full of water, "out of water." 😂

I totally agree with you about needing a Scag in front of or under a rudder. The only thing I don't like about that very long skeg is that it needs to have one more vertical support in front of the rudder just for strength without depending on the rudder for that strength.

That leg reminded me of when I ended up in hospital in Mount Isa. NW Queensland. I was working in one of the mines there. I nicked the front of my leg on, of all things, a piece of cardboard. Infection set in and before I knew it I was in hospital with my legs elevated and on a continuous antibiotic drip in one arm and a shunt in the other through which I had a two hourly antibiotic shot as well. A surgeon said to me, ‘welcome to the amputation capital of Australia, you were within a couple of hours of us taking both your legs off at the knee’! There were six of us in this hospital room, five with freshly amputated legs! Made me very aware of what could have happened! I was in there for six days and I’ve had recurring problems ever since! That was over fourteen years ago! The tropics can be a dangerous place to get an infection.

My dad was a over the road truck driver. He ran from the midwest to California and back every week.. in the early 90s he was in southern California and fell asleep, had the windows down. Woke up threw on his clothes and then threw on his footwear.. turned out that a brown recluse spider had found his shoe quite a lovely place to stay. It of course bit him, he never did see the spider but he got home 3 days later and his foot was the size of yours and it was weird colors.. luckily he didn't loose the foot but after that he always stuck a clean rag in his shoes and tipped them upside down and smacked him to make sure nothing was in there

Since you like a 3/4 fin keel and a full strut supporting the rudder you would like the underbody design of the Pacific Seacraft 34 that I have, identical in design to the 31 and the 37. By the way, when Bob Perry was designing the ultimate carbon fiber 60 ft cruiser he added a strut like that one boat that stretches from the back of the keel to the rudder strut, and called it a chastity strut, because without it you are f.

Ok - Orcas (off Spain) don't care what type of rudder you have. They have disabled full keelers as well as spade. Also talk to any yacht designer about hull windows - the bonding between the window and hull is usually stronger than the hull itself. If you lose one you have bigger problems. You should have gone for a Najad or maybe a moody. More efficiency so less miles at sea, less maintenance so you have more beer time. But hindsight is easy.

Wow hope your foot/ leg healed up okay. Melioidosis bacteria? Emergency release of your anchor cable/chain. In the Australian navy they use what's known as a Blake slip also known as a Senhouse slip to secure the anchors when at sea, it is used to slip the anchor not in the cable/chain locker but may be a good option theyre solid and only require the removal of mauzing wire securing a pin then tap out the pin then a hit with a hammer. Or the above in conjunction with a lugged joining shackle. Easy to flood a bilge on a ship when up on the hard, fresh water and fire main systems are still charged. Cheers
