Your videos are immensely enjoyable. When I was younger in my teens still, I saw a documentary on Irish canals and thought that’s for me. I’m about to turn 60 and still living in Washington State. I’m a retired writer now. Thanks to you, I not only get first hand research for stories I’m writing but live my soft little dream. You both are sweethearts and I’m looking forward to watching you conquer your fears and learn and share it all with us. Thank you. 🥰😘😍⚓️

To non slip ya gunnels, you could also use “kiln dried sand”* sprinkled on between layers of paint. Kind of like doing a glitter picture, you put lots of the sand onto the fresh wet layer of paint, leave it to dry and hopefully stick and then brush off the excess sand and add your next coat of paint. There are step by step instructions online for this and I think probably a few videos. Just an alternative to using tape products and lasts for a lot longer. 🙂🐿🌈❤️ *you could enquire at any decent chandlery, or boat painting and detailing business about the kiln dried sand or stuff for ya gunnels (or whatever they might call it 🤣).

We're still a bit new to the terminology. We thought that it was the gland that secretes the grease into the 'stuffing box'? Thank you for clarifying!

Hi and happy new year to you. The brass tube you filled with grease is the stern gland greaser. The stern gland is the brass thing with a couple of bolts where the propeller shaft passes through the hull. The gland is there to keep it watertight. A bit of drippage is normal when you are underway but it shouldn't be dripping all the time. If it is the gland needs greasing via the greaser or tightening up a little or repacking. The gland should be tight enough to stop the drip when stationary but slack enough so you can still turn the prop shaft by hand. It's a good idea to use the fuel additive. Put a little of the water resistant grease on the thread of your fuel cap, it will help reduce the risk of rain water getting into the fuel via the caps thread. Also check the rubber O ring under the cap is in good condition.
@BoatTime3 жыл бұрын
Happy new year to you too! Ahh thank you for the info! We thought that was the ‘stuffing box’ but as you can tell we are still new to a lot of this 😅 we’ve got a bit of an ongoing saga with our drip but it’s not too bad and we’re going to get it repacked when we take the boat out for blacking 😊 ooo yes we need to replace the o ring - thank you for all the tips!!

Haha! I'm glad how scary it was came across in the video - it was hard to film as we were concentrating but it was quite a nerve-wracking experience! Got across safely thankfully. We didn't need an anchor for this bit but we suspect we will need to sort that soon. We haven't assessed how long the rope is yet. We kept Rufus locked inside so we could concentrate as much as possible. Thank you so much! 💖

Look at you developing into proper boaters . I will be moving my boat from Northampton to Leicester marina on the river Soar in Feb (I say I but going to get someone to do it for me while I go on holiday) I am liveaboard but the river scares me a d I would ne single handed. It did bring a tear to my eye when you said boaters look out for each other as when I leave Northampton I will be leaving the best communityxx
@BoatTime3 жыл бұрын
Aw thank you! Oh wow that’s exciting! Yeah boat moving is big business! Makes sense for sure though 😊 I think we’d find it a lot scarier solo, we have so much respect for you solo boaters! Aw we can’t wait to visit that area. Boaters are so lovely! Xx

What an events crammed episode, so much going on! The little robin was so cute, ahhh. After you conquered the scary rapids (woohoo!), roasting potatoes to an edible degree might yet be less scary, but nevertheless a challenge to master. Time for a Starbucks reward anyway.

Yeah it was a busy couple of cruises packed full of new and scary stuff! That little robin was very brave, I felt so honoured to be allowed so close to it! 😅 Very true, we're still a way off mastering cooking in the stove, but we'll get there some day! Starbucks is definitely on the cards!

Absolutely loved this vlog. I’ve binged watched all your vlogs this week. I did that stretch in May when I was out on my boat…..I too was dreading the river section but it’s not too bad is it really. The thought of it is worse than reality. That first lock you came to with the tea pots and ducks on the bridge was the same lock a boat got stuck for 24 hours and stopped everyone going through until the CRT came and rescued it. I think it’s jinxed haha. Keep up the fabulous vlogs and I look forward to the next one. Hope to see out on the cut soon. Phil

That river was spooooky. Wes you absolutely smashed it, we would've died. What did you get from starbucks? And when you did the stats in your end of year video, did you do it from the previous vlog or from the present?

It was! It was so scary. Thank you though! It was a really tense moment but it was such a great feeling when we finished it! Hehe we just got a couple of drinks and some sammiches, can't go wrong! Loved this week’s video. So happy the river crossing went so well. The tractor parade for Christmas looked so cute what a shame they had to keep the safety lights on too. Love that you can find things canal side coffee shop, pubs, fish and chips and grocery store occasionally. May I ask what type of work you too do? It’s wonderful that you both can make a living from home and live the wonderful amazing life. I’m very jealous and happy for you. It did look very stressful cleaning around the locks after the storms with limbs and leaves thankfully you have each other and not alone to handle it. Looking forward to next video already. Happy New Year, Susan
