My uncle taught me how to dock a boat. He said a good rule to go by is this: once you are in you are positioned correctly at the dock, if wind and currents didn’t exist, you l should have enough time to finish eating your sandwich before getting of onto the dock. You don’t want any forward or reverse momentum.

Fabulous advice! We always say not to approach the dock faster than you want to hit it, but yours is a lot more evocative. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the feedback, John. This was cut down from the original 2:35 minute video to 1 minute to run as a Short. You can watch the original video at kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXK3qo13brSir8U, which is a bit more leisurely.

@@boatus thanks for your reply-I did not realize it was a”shorts” video.Looking back though-your voice was even sped up so it makes sense now. Thanks again-I really do enjoy and appreciate the knowledge you provide in these videos.

I would love to see someone do a parody of these videos. Show them more realistically with confusing winds, bizarre currents…and all the swearing! BTW…these are great videos, but the conditions always seem beyond perfect.

Hi Mark. Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately we can't necessarily choose the conditions. We choose a day that works for everyone's schedules (with a rain date). Sometimes those dates are chosen a month or more out. As long as the conditions aren't dangerous, we work with what we have available -- good and bad. We have a few video scripts written and ready to go for when the weather/current/waves/wind are less than desirable. We just haven't gotten "lucky" with those scenarios yet. Bottom line is that you have to start with the basics and understand how to do the maneuvers when everything is ideal. Then you can tweak it for other factors. We occasionally have things go wrong during filming -- sometimes SPECTACULARLY! But we use it as a teaching moment, punt, and make it look like it was planned. We don't have a lot of outtakes with Lenny in front of the camera, but we are saving up the few we do have to possibly string them together as you suggest!

Easier said than done, especially for newer boaters.
