Naw…covid ruined everything!!! Artificial canned audience noise, people walking on stage from backstage with simulated enthusiasm which never replace the true excitement of “coming on down” out of a real live audience. I think that there are only actually 10 people in the Bob Barker studio at a time anymore and they must be pre-informed as to who has been selected because they are able to make it onstage from the back so quickly. In addition to that, Drew having to social distance from 10 feet away, masks masks masks, Drew afraid to touch the big wheel after a contestant wins $1,000 in order to reset it at “5” for the re-spin. He has the contestant do it. The list just goes on and on. The same for Let’s make a deal.

I last saw this show in Nov Dec 11998 after being in Europe for 8 years. I remembered it from the 80’s and my mother loved it. That’s the last time I saw her as I left for Asia and still here. I liked Bob Barker and the models in the 80’s and had no idea what happened to the show since 1998. It’s a pity what I read happened. I think the 80’s were a golden era for this kind of game show though I didn’t watch TV to any extent then. The zeitgeist of the 80’s was about hope for a better life as illustrated by this show and the cast became familiar friends to the audience. Too bad it started to fall apart in the 90’sand after. We only appreciate what we had in hindsight and cannot go back.

The buzzard surprise appearance on TPIR even made an appearance on TV's Bloopers and Practical Jokes the very next season because of it. Even Bob Barker didn't escape a TV Blooper and Practical Joke on him.
@Boskov012 жыл бұрын
I don’t think this counts as a practical joke though. Practical jokes are meant to make the target look foolish. This didn’t do that. It was fun and good natured to celebrate the end of Bob’s bad putting streak on that pricing game.

It makes me kind of sad when I see the excellent chemistry everyone had on this show and what happened to it. From about 1976 to around 1990, you could tell the cast and crew really enjoyed working together. Not sure if it was Bob's promotion to Executive Producer or Johnny Olson's death or Bob/Dian's affair or just growing egos, but they lost that magic after about 1990 and it never returned. While I still enjoy the show, it was never the same.
