Gotta love the legendary Johnny Olsen! I was born four years after he died but thanks to GSN (back when it was actually worth watching,) KZbin and Buzzr, I get to hear and enjoy just how great and announcer he was! Seriously, the man could've announced The approach of an EF five tornado and rather than taking cover, it would result in a standing ovation! Is it just my ears, or does it seem like the strength and energy in his voice steadily declined between 1981/82 and 1985? I know he died from a stroke in October 1985 but… I don't know… Obviously he never completely lost his voice, but it did sound like it slowly declined over the last few years before his death.

The banter between Bob and Johnny is one of the things that made this show so great. I was 13 when Johnny died and I remember wondering "How can Price is Right go on without him?" I thought he was that important to the show.

I was 6 1/2 years of age when he passed. I have to share your sentiments. It’s always cool to hear them bantering back-and-forth. Well, they are reunited now along with other Goodson Todman host and announcers.

I think these are my favorite kinds of videos that you do. Not just because we get to see these great little moments (and the banter during the game was great, too), but also because we don't know ahead of time whether or not the contestant wins - or, in special cases like this one, even what the game is going to be. It's that much more like the actual feeling of seeing the show in real time, and I love that.

Airdate is May 27, 1985. Johnny Olson celebrated his 75th birthday on May 22, 1985, sadly it was his last birthday celebrated on earth, he passed away on October 12, 1985 (his final show aired out of order on November 21, 1985). Gene Wood, Bob Hilton, Rich Jefferies, and Rod Roddy filled in after Johnny’s death, Rod was named permanent replacement announcer on February 17, 1986.
