Bob's recollection of the night of the OJ Simpson car chase night - and what he'd have done differently - was fascinating.

Bob speaks off the cuff as if he's written a monologue. The guy was amazing. I miss the NBA on NBC. As soon as you heard that music you knew what time it was. Very honest on his part to mention that a lot of it was the era in which it was happening. It was a glorious time.

Jesus I could listen to bob costas all day. Give him something mundane to discuss like if he drinks coffee and if he puts cream or sugar or both in and how many cups etc and he’d tell a story about it like a Picasso. Just a great guy, true sports treasure.

Great job on the interview today! P.S.: NBA can possibly return to NBC in 2 years from now. I’m very ecstatic about it.

@@mikeayia8819 The NBA is still a terrible product with unlikable characters & actors. Bring Costas back, bring John Tesh's music back, I'm still not watching.

Yea Ahmad Rashad was a big part of NBA on NBC. NBA Inside Stuff was big with the youth as well.

Great interview! I myself once wanted to enter a career as a broadcaster particularly sports but I found it is very competitive . I remember Bob Costas forgot to mention before he began at NBC in 1980, prior to that he spent 3 years at CBS.

I remember that O.J. game like it just happened. Instead of putting the Bronco chase in a small box on screen and showing the game in full, they put the chase in full and the Finals game in a small box on screen.

Great interview, Ariel. Your prep was clear. And you were able to mirror Costas' eternal absence of "um's" and "uh's" snd "you know's," which kills so many interviews. Keep it up!

These were some great questions! I tuned in because of the OJ stuff, but the impostor syndrome question was a big one, too, that helps listeners to connect to both of you! This is a great interview. I really should've tuned in after you dropped that excellent "snowman" zinger earlier this year.

I miss Bob Costas. Wouldn't mind him coming back to play by play for NBC should the NBA come back to NBC. Marv Albert would be Great for NBA on CBS. NBA needs to rotate between broadcast networks, like FOX as well. Gus Johnston or Kevin Harlan would be Great on FOX. Mike Breen is Great on ESPN/ABC.

Loved the last question and Bob's answer. I find that you're willing to go with the subjects you interview, Ariel, and that's why I look forward to your chats. You may not be on Bob Costas's level, but who is? :)

In the realm of combat sports, a tale unfurled, Of a reporter named Ariel, who challenged the world. With pen and microphone, his passion ablaze, He sought to bring stories from the MMA maze. But obstacles arose, in the form of one man, Dana White, a figure with a heavy hand. He aimed to keep Ariel silent, his voice suppressed, To diminish his presence, to deny him his best. Ridicule and unfair treatment, Dana did bestow, Mocking Ariel's tears, for he dared to show, Emotions that were deemed unfit for a man, But Ariel stood strong, his spirit would not bend. Dana dragged his kids into the conversation, Shaming him as a father, with cruel insinuation. But Ariel held his ground, refused to be shaken, For his strength came from within, never to be taken. Years passed by, the tides began to turn, For the world witnessed Dana's actions, hard to discern. He slapped his wife, an act of aggression, A stain on his character, a public confession. In that moment, Ariel stood tall and strong, The tables had turned, justice sang its song. No longer the target of ridicule and scorn, He emerged as a symbol, adversity reborn. For in the face of adversity, he found his might, Overcoming Dana's attempts to smother his light. His journey a testament to resilience and grace, Ariel Helwani, a symbol of triumph in this space. So let this tale remind us, in moments of despair, That even in darkness, hope will always be there. For those who face ridicule and unjust plight, Remember Ariel's story, and keep fighting the fight.
