It's crazy how many rockers this song inspired, if you think about it, it's the greatest track for a budding guitarist to jam to.

An incredible poem about the Battle of Armageddon. Unsurpassed genius in song writing. “Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.” -Revelation 16:15

Despite Jimi's otherworldly presentation of this gem, I still find Dylan's original the best. How ominous can an acoustic guitar get? Listen.

@Samuel Powell i just checked it out and nah, dont care for "modern" anything, give me a simple guiter and dylans voice singing as i said is the most important part: those lyrics, thats all i need, i dont even think the jimi hendrix version comes close to the original, its untouchable

Dylan shocked the rocknroll crowd after the infamous 66 tour , and a trilogy of rocknroll records. what would he do nex?. it was the psychedelic age, sgt pepper, cream , lsd, peace n love.. What did he do? he went into reclusion And when he returns , its just him his acoustic guitar n his harmonica front n center......another great dylan moment

Until today I had never heard the Dylan version. I play a weekly solo gig these days and will add this song. I have been singing many Dylan songs since the 60's. I also missed out on "Make you feel my love" and added it to my rep after I heard the Adele version. Only later did I find out that Dylan wrote it, ha ha. Lucky me, I attended his live show in UK which was the last one with just him and his guitar.

There are several great ones: Dave Mason's, Jimi's, the Dead with Dylan live version, but this is the Ur version, no doubt. The blend of apocalyptic lyrics, his sparse voice, and the simple wood-and-nails instrumentation create an unforgettable, haunting masterpiece.
