Lyrics:
Corrina, Corrina,
Gal, where you been so long?
Corrina, Corrina,
Gal, where you been so long?
I been worryin' 'bout you, baby,
Baby, please come home.
I got a bird that whistles,
I got a bird that sings.
I got a bird that whistles,
I got a bird that sings.
But I ain't a-got Corrina,
Life don't mean a thing.
Corrina, Corrina,
Gal, you're on my mind.
Corrina, Corrina,
Gal, you're on my mind.
I'm a-thinkin' 'bout you, baby,
I just can't keep from crying.

My late father was a massive Dylan fan, often learning his songs on guitar and singing them while in his room to no audience. Dad was a beautiful guitar player, singer, and did much justice to Sir Bobs tunes. In late 2021 just 9-days before he passed on after a very aggressive cancer diagnosis I (unknowingly) had my last visit with him. He was weak, vulnerable, and scared......but his spirit and humor were intact. During our visit, his newly appointed nurse came in and introduced herself as Corrina and randomly asked my dad if he knew of a certain song with the same name, and my pops lit up and said in his own Richard Pike way that it was one of his favorite Bob Dylan songs and that he was happy to have the namesake caring for him. A few days later he was in hospice and then died soon after. I hope that lovely nurse named Corinna helped to make his last days more comfortable. I miss him so so very much, but Dylan always helps to bring us back together in some way.

Bob is definitely my favorite musician by a pretty large margin, but I would say he only has 5 masterpieces out of 39 studio albums. Still 5 more than most musicians, but still. Freewheelin', Bring it All Back Home, Blood on the Tracks, Highway 61, Blonde on Blonde. Just sharing my opinion. I'm curious if you were being hyperbolic if you actually enjoy the work he's produced over the last 40 years? If so, do you think any of them are comparable to the greatness of the albums I listed?

@@chungboislim2061 So many great artists fail miserably to live up to their first album, but there's no way anybody is going to make that claim about Bob. His second album is another matter, and there's no way he's bettered it. I'm happy with everything from this to Blood, think Desire is the end of the road, and the only album that's got through my radar since that is Slow Train. This is the album where the pathetic copyist transforms before his own eyes into the mighty BOBMAN !

As a teenager that loved Dylan’s witty, talkie, political greats of the mid-60s, this song came at me as totally singular and special. This was the same person who did those other songs! It was on a different shelf for me - not to be listened to with friends, but rather while staring out of the rainy bus window on a long distance night ride.

No, you get a job, work and get paid for your work, and you buy it. Just because Dylan, or any other artist, does their thing, does not mean that it should be "given" to self-serving, selfish, whining self-entitled, self-pitying people (you), just because the cry-babies want it. Give me free groceries, give me free car and free gasoline, gimme free housing, give me free university tuition, give me free free medical treatment ..... whaaa....

Dylan was the 60's. The Vietnam war was raging and in the background was Bob Dylan with his music taking everyone over. This is one of my favorite songs and the album cover is simply the best. My brother had a VW bus just like the one in the picture. Life was different back then - Blowin in the Wind was almost a theme song. And what a time we all had.

Seeing his reaction to such a simple beautiful song made me realize what thought my dad put into my name and "where u been so long" has a whole differently meaning. Listen to the Freewheelin which he wrote when he was still so young (early 20s). You're absolutely right, he is a musical genius and we are lucky to be alive at the same time as him. I just looked it up, the original writer for this song is Blind Lemon Jefferson in 1926. It’s been copied and edited like 30 times over the 20th century. Thank you Lemon Jefferson and Bob Dylan

Me and my friends took lsd and listened to Mr. Tambourine Man. That is when I saw the music come out of the speaker in waves of color. I was transported to heavenly places. That was before they painted the passports brown. I saw the wind blow. Everyone should see that. Dylan is the master of the tower of song.

"" (sometimes "") is a 12-bar country blues song in the AAB form. "Corrine, Corrina" was first recorded by Bo Carter (Brunswick 7080, December 1928). However, it was not copyrighted until 1932 by Armenter "Bo Carter" Chatmon and his publishers, Mitchell Parish and J. Mayo Williams. The song is familiar for its opening verse:

Hard to imagine anyone at age 21 or 22 writing & performing such a fluent, timeless song. (Yep. I now fully realize that he did not write it, folks). But when you can pen Boots Of Spanish Leather, it's not too much of a stretch to assume he was behind this one as well.

@@philharnage993 Not to start a shit show but THAT one is “Corinne Corinna” a hit for Ray Peterson & covered by a bunch of people. Not saying Dylan didn’t hear it and “borrow” a little bit ie the chorus. Most of the lyrics and music are different.

This may be my favorite Dylan song and it's a cover, sort of. I think it was the poet Robert Lowell who said Dylan had a Caruso voice. It's that Hank Williams yodel that really gets me. Not quite full throated but controlled and passionate.

Bob Dylan remembers idolizing Johnson in Greenwich Village during the early 1960s: “He greatly influenced me … ‘Corrina, Corrina’ [which Dylan covered on his 1963 album, The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan], that’s pretty much Lonnie Johnson. I used to watch him every chance I got and sometimes he’d let me play with him.”
