I feel like this exchange perfectly encapsulates what it is like to have found the right person but gotten the timing wrong. Poor kids.

Dylan was always a prick. To EVERYBODY. An absolute, unapologetic asshole in every way. But he was such a good writer that people always stuck with him.

@@redadamearth almost all musicians who played with him see him fondly and remember cool stories from the road. Baez stil loves him (obviously). His kids speak of him with love as a caring father. His mother, his always kept close and went to visit or even took her to events. Relatives and people from his old town speak of him as kind and humble, often helping them out. His long time friends, like Louie Kemp too. So, what the fuck are you talking about?

Drunk. Sam Shepard wrote about it in his book about the Rolling Thunder tour. Bob was drunk as f. Joannie was messing with him. I think the sight of the wedding dress messed w/his head. They were talking earlier about what would've happened if they got married and Bob said, "I haven't changed." You see it all over this tour, when they sing together, they still have it for one another, that sort of thing doesn't dissolve into the air. And they sing like they were made for one another. Sara's said she though they were going to kiss on stage--at some point Bobby makes a nibble towards her mouth during a song. Shameless, beautiful, and yeah, twitchy. A woman like Joan would make me twitch until my dying day.

He was always like that, even when he was in his early 20's. Watch any footage of him from any period. He could never keep still, even when just talking to somebody. It also had to do with the fact that he was on speed (amphetamines) for DECADES.

Even recently, 8 decades into life, Joan publicly admitted Bob walking away from her tore her up (even acknowledging he may be listening). Nothing melts/frustrates a desirable girl like Joan more than a successful man that walks away. That man is in their head forever. Men obsess about women, but they can fall for the next one that lies beside them. It's simple biology, serving the success of the species. Men want love, woman want the alpha but are never quite content. Any man can see her attraction here. It's palpable. She is being sweet and feminine. Butterflies? Bob could have at least said he liked her dress. I guess with the cameras rolling he had to say he married the women he loved, and mother to 4 children. If this is '75, he and Sara were not technically divorced. I've had to tell a few women things they didn't want to hear and it is painful. "You should've told me." - "But I married the woman I loved." That had to really hurt Joan in that moment, when she just wants to hear she looks pretty and is loved.

Calling Baez "sweet and feminine" tells me that you know literally nothing about her. LOL She was a hard-cursing, no-nonsense woman who took ZERO bullshit from anybody - and she was smarter than anyone else in the room. What happened with Dylan was that she had met her match in terms of intelligence and zero bullshit, so they basically canceled each other out and could never last, as they each knew when the other one was lying about anything. But "sweet and feminine"? Yeah, no. lol That wasn't Baez. She would have eaten you for lunch and spit you out.
