The only two in the same sentence as Dylan are Lucinda Williams and Roger Waters. I aspire to the example they present. nah john lennon is clearly the goat songwriter and was a stronger songwriter than dylan, lennon put together a greater range of material. dylan was less likely to leave home base yes he went electric but a significant portion of that material was amped up readings of songs that could have resided in the folk idiom.some of the more raucous electric songs aren't much more than a 12 bar workout. (e.g. leonard skin pillbox hat) with very little innovation or originality outside the lyric. dylan didn't stray too far away from his folk roots. I'm a loser, norwegian wood and you've got to hide your love away are successful and memorable compositions. im a loser features a dylaneseque vocal and lyric but includes a rousing chorus of the kind that dylan eschewed.lennon explored more sonic territory and genres as well offering some of the greatest examples of psychedelia ever produced. tomorrow never knows, strawberry fields forever and I am the walrus are titans of the era and genre. lyrically they are as playful and impenetrable as much of dylan's work and musically they are much more ambitious than anything dylan ever attempted and paul simon ranked mccartney over dylan ✌️

Now that I experienced something beautiful with a girl but it ended because we both agreed that we needed to move on. This song pierced my heart and totally destroyed me. Love is amazing, but damn, it hurts so bad when you miss someone. I just had something amazing and beautiful with a fantastic girl, I still have very very strong feelings towards her and she has all the good stuff of kind person and a keeper. There's good people out there, it is rare to find them but it is possible. We had something, so short yet so sweet that it hurts so bad to be alone again but I'm happy for her and we both part ways amicably. Now I still think about her a lot and I guess time actually helps you heal but I'm still dealing with quite a lot of pain. Anyway, I can't stop thinking about the message in this song and "If You See Her Say Hello," which is how I feel right now. It definitely destroyed me, but I also respect what happened, and now she and I have to keep going little by little. It hurts, it sucks and you have to cry a lot, but that is that. Just try to be kind and a good person everyone, you guys are beautiful and handsome people.

When listening to 'Time Out of Mind', I always wonder who broke Bob's heart to bring on all those sad songs. Although, apparently, he 'doesn't do autobiographical songs', someone (or something) must have been responsible for the overall mood of that album, I think. In the end, it does not really matter, of course. The sad songs on this album are wonderful whatever their inspiration might be. And the listener feeling deeply for the singer/narrator just shows their quality.

I'm glad we don't know who broke his heart. Let's be honest. We usually break our own hearts.

Well, he has like one autobiographical song, Sara. You should check it out if you haven't already. Apart from that obviously autobiographical song, I believe that most of his lyrics have some type of correlation with his life. Especially with Dylan, since his life is so private, we only get to know him through his lyrics.
@bollykecks3 жыл бұрын
@@sofiagoa5141 Yeah, I know 'Sara'. And as several of his other songs also seem to be really autobiographical, at least in parts, I added 'apparently' when I tried to paraphrase Bob's own statement that he 'doesn't write autobiographical songs' in my initial comment. I believe he only said that because people always tried (and still do) to read too much into his lyrics. But - as you say - the only way for us to (maybe) catch a glimpse of the 'real' Bob Dylan is through his words. But (correct) autobiographical material might be sparse in there, one might mostly only get information about his mindset from the lyrics.
@sofiagoa51413 жыл бұрын
@@bollykecks I agree with you a 100%! Dylan is not one for answering questions thoroughly and I think it's better that way. Some people need to stop wondering what Dylan means with his lyrics and actually try to build the meaning themselves. It's much more fun that way!

I drove it with "Love Sick" and "Cold Irons Bound" as my daily soundtrack from Claremont NH through Cornish, to West Leb, like having Bob with Maxfield Parrish, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, JD Salinger, Donald Hall on a train rolling alongside the old route 12-A. I actually saw Salinger in Amherst as he came out of Kmart. Saw our poet Hall also. Now playing this album on an old phone.

"Maybe they'll get me, and maybe they won't, but not tonight and it won't be here." These lines conjure up some stoic, old West outlaw on the run, with the Law on his trail. Or Dylan himself, always out touring, moving on. Either way, the singer is the survivor, the one who is accustomed to doing the leaving. But not this time. She left him just standing there in the doorway crying.
