absolutely : a very talented band with one of the best drum&bass combo around at the time. Not to mention Taylor, Knopfler and Clark. IMHO the best album Dylan recorded in the eighties. In addition, if we also consider the outtakes, we are basically faced to one of the best recording session that Dylan went through during his whole career.

@alexanderkartun-giles59614 жыл бұрын
I think solo at the end is actually an overdub by Mick Taylor. The Wikipedia says Knopfler plays lead guitar. But the solo at the end is in fact Mick, mimed by his girlfriend.
@antalantal23664 жыл бұрын
@@TheRob2D I like proofs or lines of evidence instead of simple claims. I can write down that Bob himself played the solo but this is not a proof. Therefore, here you are four things to substantiate my post in decreasing order of importance: first of all the reputed guitarist Mick Joiner who transcribed basically each solo Taylor did, attributes this solo to Taylor. Secondly, the solo sounds much more taylorish than knopflerish to my ears . I can hardly image a talented guitarist as Knopfler mimicking Mick Taylor's style. Have a listen to what Taylor recorded with Mayall and the Stones to pin down his lyricism. Thirdly, I am very skeptical about what the web reports but, if we exclude wikipedia (that can be wrong) there is a good deal of evidence out there about Taylor playing the solo (on YT, for instance, guitarists attribute the solo to Taylor). Finally, and less importantly, from the very beginning of his career Taylor was essentially in charge of crafting outstanding solos: that's what his reputation was made of. It is kind of hard to think that he was chosen and paid to restrain his talent

Poobalan Pather The only artist I can think of who is at least as genius as Bob Dylan is Nick Drake. If you haven’t heard of him I really, really recommend you check his stuff out. His album _Pink Moon_ is an absolute masterpiece (it’s on KZbin as well), and I urge you to listen to it at some point in your life (not to sound demanding haha, I’m just very passionate about his work, as he was painfully under appreciated and unknown during his lifetime, and still is to this day to an extent). Here’s the title track to that album if you’re curious... kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6PUamhvpLOJrdk His cover of Bob Dylan’s _Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right_ may spark your interest as well... kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaLbnod_brqIodU He sadly doesn’t have as big of a discography as Dylan does, due to his untimely death at 26 in 1974, but everything he put out during his short period on earth is absolutely incredible. Some other songs that I would really recommend... Hazey Jane I kzbin.info/www/bejne/eH27k4eDrrl3mbc Black Eyed Dog kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpLFqZuBidB4Zrc Place To Be kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJWqo3qaaLJ-f6s Far Leys kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYu7qZZtqpJ9rNU I apologize for the long response, but I genuinely think that you’ll enjoy the work he’s left behind. I just feel like he’s not mentioned enough in regards to genius musicians, and I think it’s a huge injustice to him how relatively obscure he is, even today (though not to the extent that he was during his lifetime). Hopefully you enjoy some of what I sent though.

Well, the pressure’s down, the boss ain’t here He gone North, he ain’t around They say that vanity got the best of him But he sure left here in style By the way, that’s a cute hat And that smile’s so hard to resist But what’s a sweetheart like you doin’ in a dump like this? You know, I once knew a woman who looked like you She wanted a whole man, not just a half She used to call me sweet daddy when I was only a child You kind of remind me of her when you laugh In order to deal in this game, got to make the queen disappear It’s done with a flick of the wrist What’s a sweetheart like you doin’ in a dump like this? You know, a woman like you should be at home That’s where you belong Watching out for someone who loves you true Who would never do you wrong Just how much abuse will you be able to take? Well, there’s no way to tell by that first kiss What’s a sweetheart like you doin’ in a dump like this? You know you can make a name for yourself You can hear them tires squeal You can be known as the most beautiful woman Who ever crawled across cut glass to make a deal You know, news of you has come down the line Even before ya came in the door They say in your father’s house, there’s many mansions Each one of them got a fireproof floor Snap out of it, baby, people are jealous of you They smile to your face, but behind your back they hiss What’s a sweetheart like you doin’ in a dump like this? Got to be an important person to be in here, honey Got to have done some evil deed Got to have your own harem when you come in the door Got to play your harp until your lips bleed They say that patriotism is the last refuge To which a scoundrel clings Steal a little and they throw you in jail Steal a lot and they make you king There’s only one step down from here, baby It’s called the land of permanent bliss What’s a sweetheart like you doin’ in a dump like this?

@@adamt5164 Although the line 'in your father's house there's many a mansions' is directly from the Gospel of John. So the 'sweetheart' in that stanza is Jesus. In the rest of the song, she morphs into something equally vulnerable: everyday compassion. But all around is the corruption (within church, society, business, politics) that Dylan commonly rails against.

By far his best song!! Packing all of dylan into 4:30min!! And it's not the he didn't write the most amazing songs ever... But this to me is the culmination of all his work and defintely his artistic pinnacle. The most perfect blend of lyricism and music ever! Touche to Mark - a perfect musician himself - having the privilege of being the perfect match for bringing this out of Dylan..... Must have heard it probably over 1000 time and will still enjoy hearing it, hopefully at least as many times more, with no less pleasure and appreciation as the 1st time.... If someone told me that it would be possible that someone would write such a song, that would move me so profoundly everytime time endlessly like this one, i would never have believed it possible...

drFluency you 're so right bro!!!! I've always been deeply moved by this song, ever since I bought the album just after it came out !! I'm not sure I could say it's his best song but it's in my top3.. and it's not only (probably) his best song, but one of the 10 best songs ever.. the diversity in the melody is absolutely unique!! the only comparison for me in terms of melodic genius would be "martha my dear" or some other by Mc Cartney , but "sweetheart" is deeper..
