If you look at other things Dylan about Donovan in those days, you may well think his dig at Donovan was a nasty dig. Certainly not 'light hearted and good spirited'.
@Michael69
@Michael69 4 жыл бұрын
@@tonyb83 Dylan admitted (and even published in his autobiography) that he lied to the press constantly. He was sick of their questions which were not helping anyone, least of all themselves, so he didn't take them seriously and gave bullshit answers to throw them off. He was and still is a very elusive and mysterious character. He has purposely constructed his image this way.

@@Michael69 Hi Michael, you'r right, he didn't like the press but I was refering to the, for want of a better word, 'nasty' things he said about Donavon in those days. Are you saying he said those 'nasty' things about Donovan because he didn't like the press?
@Michael69
@Michael69 4 жыл бұрын
@@tonyb83 I'm saying that what he said was most likely exaggerated, fabricated or just blown out of proportion by the press or whoever else published said things.

I always like that he switched the line so it was "I took her by the heart and my hand was thumping" makes the line alot more memorable

You're doing gods work sir, and a fine job you make of it too. This is my favourite period of dylan durring his existential poet/prophet and between his hobo folk protester of the people and the spindle electric hipster king that would set the music world all of a blaze, periods lol Keep it up

Yes, and in the event we might have assumed that a young Dylan was above the pettiness and uncertainty that befalls people at that tender age, well, he showed us that he was not. Quite a few times during that tour he took potshots at the easy going Donovan, someone who never said or did anything against Dylan.

First time I heard this song in 1964 "maybe", wasn't Bob Dylan but the guy across the street played it on guitar and sang the whole thing to a few of us kids. We laughed our butts off. I was 6 or 7. I didn't hear it again until I was 17 on a Dylan tape. The guy that played it ended up getting a job with the CIA or some other dark intelligence agency, I heard. I never saw him again.

Whenever i get pissed off about what AI is doing (to music) i just think no matter how hard people like Elon Musk try, technology and computers will never come close to Dylan's brilliance. I think of that and start laughing. And by the way, Dylan a is a better guitar player than many give him credit for. This song is a perfect example of his guitar skills.
