My Cousin past away last week. He was a country & western singer. But he did songs from way back from even his fathers time. But the only song I ever heard him sing that wasn't country was this. And I had never heard it before but of course I loved it.

I was born in '63....three years old when ELUSIVE BUTTERFLY came out....vaguely recalled it when I first heard Aretha Franklin's version of it (from 1969) about 3-4 years ago. Back then, "pop music" included such a wide range of music...even instrumental..and some spoken word!

I had the pleasure of watching Bob Lind perform at the Glendale Icehouse back in 1967. In the audience was Neil Young. He was invited on stage and the two performed a song . What an evening.

Back in the days before internet, and long after Bob Lind's initial popularity had faded, I hand wrote him a letter to express my appreciation for those first four album releases of his in the 60's that meant so much to me. I received back a handwritten letter, which I still have somewhere, in which he thanked me for my response to his music but in which he said that he was so much prouder of the music he was writing at that time for the likes of Richie Haven, and that the music he wrote in the 60's didn't mean as much to him anymore. That disappointed me so much to learn that it meant more to me than it did to him! But it didn't change my attitude toward that wonderful poetry and beautiful arrangements on those 60's albums. In fact, I still play them to this day, and they still mean as much to me as ever.

Odd how a song comes to mind after 50 years and not hearing it. I was thinking about my sweetheart whom I lost in June and this song came to mind. Not that it had an special memory but, what the song did, was remind me of love lost and any thoughts of sharing such deep love again will forever remain elusive . God Bless

What a beautiful song. I played it the other day not knowing what it was - until i heard it! Im 58 and live in England and definitely remember hearing this as a kid but not heard it since. Cant stop playing it and could also imagine Glen Campbell covering it.

Wow! How special! Butterfly was sheer 60's poetry! Didn't know his writing was so prolific. Wikipedia: Robert Neale Lind (born November 25, 1942) is an American folk-music singer-lyricist, who helped define the 1960s folk rock movement in the U.S. and UK.[1] Lind is well known for his transatlantic hit record, "Elusive Butterfly",[2] which reached number 5 on both the US and UK charts in 1966. Many musicians have recorded songs by Lind, who continues to write, record and perform.

Fantastic song, just the other day I made out 16 songs for yet another playlist and Butterfly of Love was an automatic. But it's the lyrics I would like to know about as they are so good, so deep so strong so intimate... just a few years ago my fellow Irish man Val Doonican who had a big hit with Elusive Butterfly back in 1966, that's the version I love, died 2015 aged 88. It reached no. 3 in Ireland. If you asked me do I think it's fair that Val made a bundle out of the Elusive Butterfly, I would say 'No' I don't but I don't make those crazy non existent rules. In fact I have just learned that Val's hit here was before Bob's in '66.
