@t96s : They said Bob was really glad to have Jr. Marvin playing guitar ... he loved the way Marvin combined Hendrix-style playing, plus he took some of the stage work from Bob ... engaging the audience, etc. Excellent version, give thanks & praises, Stonechater, for the post RIP Ras Bob. We love you!

For most of 1976, Al Anderson toured with Peter Tosh. Therefore, Bob hired Junior Marvin and thus much of the solo work was his for the "Exodus", "Kaya", and "Survival" records. Sorry for the lengthy post, but I've read tons of misinformation on this subject. By the way, I've met both Al and Junior after Wailers shows. Both are incredible guys and said the same thing about Bob: "...the most disciplined guy they've ever met." Keep spreading love. Bob music lives forever...

Also, listen to "The Heathen" from Bob's last concert (Stanley Theater, Pittsburgh, PA, 9/23/80) and after Junior's solo you can hear Tyrone Downie (the keyboard player) yell out: "Junior Marvin on guitar yeah!" From the Santa Barbara County Bowl concert from 1979, Junior Marvin is wearing a tan leather jacket and plays a black Gibson Les Paul. He stands directly to Bob's left the entire concert and has great solos on "The Heathen" and "Wake Up and Live".

The solo is played by Al Anderson. His sound is unmistakeable. Take a listen to the "Babylon By Bus" double LP to hear more of his virtuoso guitar ripping. I photographed the Wailers a couple times in Boston, post Bob, during my college years in the mid 80's. The clear lead guitar was always Al Anderson with Jr. Marvin on rhythm.

Let me see if I can help clarify the details of the Wailers' musicians. This song, from the "Exodus" and "Kaya" recordings in London in 1977, has a solo by Junior Marvin. He plays lead guitar on this song and notably from that same era, "Is This Love". Search "Bob Marley The Heathen Live" and the first video is that song from the Rainbow Theatre in London, 1977. Junior Marvin plays the solo. He is wearing a red shirt, white pants and plays a Fender Stratocaster.

Finally, Al Anderson is also featured in the Santa Barbara concert. Search the video for "Concrete Jungle" from that show. He plays a solo in it. He is to Bob's far right standing by Tyrone Downie. He is wearing a long-sleeve white shirt and aviator sunglasses. He is playing a Gibson Les Paul. Basically, the "Natty Dread" and "Rastaman Vibration" tour (present/past songs: "No Woman No Cry", "Lively Up Yourself", "Concrete Jungle", etc.) featured Al Anderson on lead guitar.
