I'm Jamaican and this is the song that made Bob Marley a hero in my eyes. In 1976 when it was getting regular airplay on WLIB, I was 16 years old living in the Bronx, a borough in NYC in the USA, and I understood the injustices against my brothers and sisters in South Africa. The song was on time. WAR!

Listening to some late night Bob Marley "War" and thinking how far we have come as a race. But opening my eyes to going of today and realizing we are all still soldiers in a "War" this song is so relevant today as the day he wrote it.

Passionate, poignant, powerful and pure delivery by Mr. Marley. The words, though, are from a speech delivered by Haile Selassie, The KIng of Kings, to the UN in 1963. For all of Africa, Palestine, the Ukraine and all the world's people who are marginalized, and much worse, true, full and complete justice is demanded and needed. No peace until the unalienable rights of all people are equal, uniform and on offer. Viva la Revolution my brothers and sisters. We, as children of all that is good, pure and true, shall not rest until victory over the harbingers and controllers of hate are suckling on the swine's teats and trembling at the butcher of justice's arrival. Peace for all.

Over 40 years later, this song is still so actual. Will this damned racism ever stop?
@andyhague60504 жыл бұрын
Racism is perpetually perpetrated by the zionist cabal,divide and conquer,bob marley despised the zionist cabal and rightly so there evil is beyond psychopathic.
@acidpunk694 жыл бұрын
Andy Hague Naa that's not correct .. Babylon is the racist mechanism, Zion is the promised land ..The song's lyrics concern Marley's Rastafarian beliefs, coupled with an anti-violence message. Zion is "the promised land," which for Rastafarians is the African country of Ethiopia. The lion refers to the Lion of Judah, which appears on the Ethiopian flag and represents Haile Selassie I, the former Ethiopian emperor that Rastas regard as their Messiah... that is about iron lion Zion song
@acidpunk694 жыл бұрын
Andy Hague In Rastafari, "Zion" stands for a utopian place of unity, peace and freedom, as opposed to "Babylon", the oppressing and exploiting system of the materialistic modern world and a place of evil.

Erykrockmusic yeh Bob Marley and John Lennon were trying to spread the message of peace and love and say no to war through their music we need more people saying this shit music has lost meaning and also sends the wrong message especially to young people music needs to reflect the times like the classic artist did
@JohnLick968 жыл бұрын
He couldn't stop whats happening but he could have made a difference in people's lives. I really don't think he could've changed anything more than he already has. He became more famous with death and his testimonies can still be heard through interviews and music. You act like he would've became the president or something.
@mathewwalentowicz30818 жыл бұрын
sonofaballer96 no in a time like this humanity is only becoming more violent and hateful I'm just thinking people would listen to a man like Bob
@Erykrockmusic8 жыл бұрын
sonofaballer96 What I meant was if he was here, especially now a days, he would have done tours for equality etc. I think he would have grown even more popular. Everybody knows Bob but NOT everybody knows what he was singing about and what his message was. People always associate him with weed but that wasn't the only thing he was fighting for. If he was around now more people would know.
@JohnLick968 жыл бұрын
Erykrockmusic He would've been heard but that doesn't mean people would listen to him. I agree with you but either way, the world is only going to get worse. We can only try to prolong the inevitable but our fate is written. Bob cannot change that and Bob himself had sins.
