Bob Mintzer & WDR BIG BAND: Herky Jerky

With "Soundscapes" Bob Mintzer has written an exclusive program for his big band. And with it, he again exhausts all the melodic, harmonic and dynamic possibilities offered by both the individual members of the WDR BIG BAND and the collective. The track "Herky Jerky" features Johan Hörlén on alto saxophone and Ruud Breuls on trumpet. Marcio Doctor makes a guest appearance on percussion. Produced during dress rehearsal at WDR Studio 4 (December 2020).
Bob Mintzer is a defining figure for big band jazz - and has been for many years or decades. Many of his compositions are part of the standard repertoire of contemporary jazz. And that he is also an excellent saxophonist, he has proven among others in Buddy Rich's band and of course with the Yellowjackets. An all-rounder who has been contributing all his experience as chief conductor of the WDR Big Band since fall 2016.
