Bob is a legend but i find on my local stretch of river that the roach wont touch fluorocarbon hooklengths on a paternoster rig no matter how low in diameter i go . Maybe its the weight of fluorocarbon or it being less supple than mono or even to do with the bottom of my local river but i have tried it too many times swapping between fluoro and mono hooklengths and always the same . They will not touch a maggot with a fluorocarbon hooklength . Not saying its the same on all rivers but definitely on my local stretch for roach . I use fluorocarbon for pretty much all other species except small silvers on rivers .

Much prefer a free running rig. More fish friendly, and in my opinion show the development of bites more clearly, and less lost fish at the net. Use a twizzled boom, feather the line, and no tangles either.
