Is this bassline playable on the upright bass? Or electric bass still fits on this music?
@dukeofrodtown1705 Жыл бұрын
I would think yes, as a non-bassist. However, this is a funk arrangement, and to get that mid-last century feel, I'd totally recommend sticking to electric. You could say that the section from 90, when the rhythm section comes back in is appropriate for upright bass. Then again, I think it'd better to stick to electric just in case you or your ensemble's bassist does not have proper access to a double bass. Also, there isn't a double for that part.

I have an arrangement question: I'm trying to write an arrangement of this song myself. I initially wondered if I should write it in 4/4 with swung 16ths, but in looking at most other arrangements and transcriptions of this song, it's written in cut time with swung 8ths. That seemed like it'd be easier to read, so I went with that. But now I'm seeing that your arrangement uses swung 16ths. Is there a reason why you chose to write it that way? Thank you!
@The8BitBigBand Жыл бұрын
Yeah I see people writing funk for big band in cut time but I never understood why. We’re feeling such a strong pulse in 4/4, and it would feel wrong to conduct in 2. Also, why be afraid of 16th notes everyone? They’re not that scary haha. Last but not least, cut time would be double the measures which would be double the page turns, double the paper, and double the formatting work! So in this genre and feel I choose 4/4
