This is VERY interesting and why I enjoy it is because there is a powerful difference between Bob's "anyone can paint a decorative piece" and this "Real Artist" showing what someone with talent can achieve. I'm not saying Bob wasn't talented, I'm saying that his appeal was to the decorative, not particularly talented, viewers that just want color on their walls. This is the other end of the spectrum, real art which requires real skill. Art vs Decor. Both have their uses and students from profoundly different walks and abilities. Glad to see that Bob presented these dramatically different aproaches.
@user-rr1in8fw3j6 жыл бұрын
Bobs art is REAL ART idk what you are talking about ! Take you head off you ass! Who are you to judge him and say he is not particularly talented. "A" who am I? I'm someone who agrees with Bob, that he's not a fine artist, "HE" is the one who admits that he went down the "decorative" art path and not the higher skilled Fine Art path. It's obvious to the most fundamental sketch artist, that this is decorative art when Bob does it and that's for those who couldn't make it at all as "real" artists. OMG.. one big "duh" for you "A". Keep making circles and triangles and eventually you'll begin to advance your understanding. Glad to give you some direction and clarity.
@sidharthasankarsarma55596 жыл бұрын
Actually it is wrong to classify "decorative artists" as artists having low skills or talents. You cannot group together a set of people and call their art superior or inferior. Look at Van Gogh and Monet's paintings. They were despised and loathed as they did not follow conventional art techniques. But their styles were so unique that now after so many years, we continue to admire the Impressionists. In my opinion, art is a form of communication. A little message to humanity. If Bob Ross's landscape gives people peace, I would prefer it over any fancy, technically defined "fine art".
@theplaintruth47946 жыл бұрын
Sidhartha SAnker Sarma could you be less educated? Of course there are talentless artists which can only provide decorative color to canvas, board, or walls. wish no skills, no sense of composition and an inability to communicate their subject with skill. The fact that YOU prefer them, doesn't elevate the work, but it's nice that you prefer color dabs over recognized skilled art. And to help you out a little, Monet was a hugely celebrated artist while he was alive and very well celebrated. So you're clueless there. As for Vincent, he was so emotionally incongruent with artists of the time, that he just couldn't make a living as he lacked the social skills necessary to succeeed among the impressionists who were definitely succeeding. Bob always taught "decorative" painting just so those who couldn't rise as talented artists, could still arrange paint on canvas so it at least represented something, anything, and gave them something to do. It was a nice try though.
@itsbabyskittles6 жыл бұрын
"How to draw a basic figure, that anyone can do at home with very little practice" meaning: "It's not going to look like a realistic painting" it's more of a beginner's guide into learning how to paint a portrait. Looking at some of his other paintings at the end of the show, he's actually quite good at painting portraits but he brought paintings he did in the same style as he used in this video. And seeing the last one they showed that bob ross said was his favorite, it looked semi-realistic which means he probably can draw realistic portraits but he's just showing people how to start with this method.

Lots of clueless people leaving ignorant comments about this. If you think this is bad, try picking up a brush and giving it a go yourself. You'll quickly find there is a reason why painting realistic portraits is a form of genius. This is an underpainting style where you establish the tonality and form for the upper layers. When working on an underpainting, very rarely do you concentrate too much on getting the details right or put too much time into it, and an underpainting is usually two layers to establish mid tones and deep shadow. Another layer, called "dead layer" is placed on top of the underpainting to give tonale hue and value for the colour layers that come next. Sometimes the dead layer isn't used ubiquitously, but it helps with flesh tones and to give a base of paint so that you can wortk with the opacity of oils to give more depth and hue values. Even if you don't think the face he painted looks that good, the idea and technique behind it is sound.

Not a fan or painting faces but this has some simple yet nice way of doing proportions and shadows.

Yea. I'm not a big fan of trees or dirt or water or barns or mountains or reflections. Birds and lakes are stupid. Arms are over rated for me lately. Animals and aluminum Just not a fan.

It's interesting to see another artist on the show, we're so used to Bob's magnetic personality. But his friend here I feel is an example of the more typical artist. Quiet, reserved, tends to get stuck in their head a lot when working. Bob understood that and I like how he would let him work but when he would get to a point where he'd get in his head he'd gently draw him back out with questions to get him talking again. It was a such a sweet and wholesome interaction to watch. :)

I wouldn't say he's nervous he just seems really really calm in nature. But at the same time he's a touch nervous. Like he hasn't been in front of a camera in awhile. Did a good job though
