To me, the voice mail sounded like Bob was very lonely and more needing Dave to talk to him than the other way around. It also sounded like he might have been drunk or on something. Perhaps that is why, after Bob's death, the family swooped in to make sure all photographs of the hotel room were sealed and never released. Perhaps they showed substances around.
