"Today's music ain't got the same soul" And Bob was talking about the music of the late 70s and 80s. 40 years later... it's even worse than he imagined it.

Dahoss I agree and same goes with Aerosmith imo. They have amazing songs from the 73 self titled to just push play in 2001.

There is still good music. Just have to sift past the top 40 garbage and really discover it. People who say there is no good music being made have obviously never listened. But I deffinatly still love that old time rock n roll.

There’s a lot of country music that you can relate to from losing a loved one or friend and some that pay respect to our military and first responders or those about relationships

That's what my dad told me in 1974 or so. Specifically, he said, "If you EVER bring Steppenwolf into MY house I will break the record beat your @$5!" Anyway, I think people have been saying it since the second song ever was written. Let's face it--nothing's ever going to measure up to what we grew up with. But hey, I'm 56 and still go to the occasional concert (some new group or other) and listen to songs my kids (ages 29, 25 and 22) recommend. There is good, soulful, rockin music out there, you just gotta get past the top 40 and find it (shout out to Daniel Ingalls). Hit me up if you want some recommendations. All that said, I still love the music I grew up with, and Bob Seger never disappoints.

This was just a song. Otherwise, George Jackson and Bob Seger were denigrating their own music.

Yeah man it's funny those of us that were around when Bob released this song now hear it and think he was a Prophet because that opening line basically epitomizes the music scene today and how I feel about it. It does make me happy though to see young men like you opening up and exploring the great music of the past so it can live on to the next generation.

I can describe him but like the videos we played in our minds, each of us with our own memories have all painted in a tapestry of colors and personal experiences, so I'll let you pick your definition. Have you ever been to a field where 2- 6 trucks backed up to form your own nightclub? Everybody gets as close together as they can, leaving the tailgates down. Then a board goes down across four of the tailgate=dance floor tailgates up, which was the beverage mobile and one for food (if any), the truck door facing the dense woods=ladies room. But it was also legal to drink at 18 yo plus there was always somewhere to sleep it off and be at work in the am. My Bob Segar journal. One happy camper. When you ĺive in a swamp the ground can behave like a very scorned lady😢 wouldn't have missed it for the world and squelch any regret with a heavy sigh. ❤❤

Bob Seger "It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of our lifelong friend and band mate, Alto Reed. Alto passed away this morning at his home with his family by his side after fighting a courageous battle with colon cancer. Alto has been a part of our musical family, on and off stage, for nearly 50 years. I first started playing with Alto in 1971. He was amazing - he could play just about anything…he was funky, could scat and play tenor sax and alto sax at the same time. We worked with Alto often and when we booked our first headline arena gigs at Cobo Hall, we asked him to be a part of those shows. No doubt his iconic performance on Turn The Page helped lift us to another level. He has been with us on that stage virtually every show, ever since. And whether it was Turn The Page, Mainstreet, or Old Time Rock And Roll, audiences roared every time he played his part. In our band, Alto was the rock star. Off stage, Alto had a passion for discovering and experiencing new things. He taught me how to sail on Biscayne Bay, we swam with the sharks (unintentionally!), and he often introduced us to local foods and restaurants he had discovered. I called him Captain. He was bolder than I was. I remember visiting him in the Miami area and I found him feeding the manatees in a lagoon behind his house. Most of us feed the seagulls, Alto fed the manatees! Alto started a family and was a fabulous father. He helped raise two talented, beautiful, intelligent young ladies. Over the years, his passion for music, life and new adventures never diminished. We loved him like a brother and will miss him forever." - Bob Seger

This is one of my favorite songs of Bob Seger. I rewrote this song when president Reagan had a war on marijuana . Here's my version Take those old roaches off the shelf. Sit and toke em all by myself . Today's dope just ain't the same smoke. I love that old kind bud Columbian gold. I like that old kind bud Columbian gold . The kind of bud that soothes my throat. I really miss the daze when toking a bowl. Of that old kind bud Columbian gold. You Never got me to smoke some homegrown. You never ever got me to smoke it before. In ten minutes I'll be getting my own. Sack of that old kind bud Columbian gold. Yeah I like that old kind bud Columbian gold. The kind of Bud that soothes my throat. I really miss the daze when toking a bowl. Of that old kind bud Columbian gold. I can't stay now it's time to go. I'd rather have some booze than some funky old dope. There's only one sure way to sell me your smoke. Start dealing the old kind bud Columbian gold. you can call it medicinal or call it the kill. Say it's the real or say it's the chill. Today's dope just ain't the same smoke . I like that old kind bud Columbian gold. ( Choking and coughing during the instrumental ) Lol enjoy

This song and two or three beers would get me onto the dance floor. Probably not a pretty sight, but I didn’t care. Of course, that was forty years ago. Today, I’m lucky if I can get out of my chair. Thanks so much for the memories and your adorable (yes, I said it) reactions to the music I grew up with.

"We were making Thunderbirds" is a bit of a historical, social economic commentary song by Bob Seger.

This is so awesome!! Bob Seger is a staple of rock music for 50+ years!! Ok, so now that you’ve found him you might as well do it up right 🎸🎤♥️ Lets hear “Her Strut” & I’m sure you will remember his song “Shakedown” from Beverly Hills Cop II 👍🏼 I forgot another great one called “You’ll accompany me” ♥️ It’s beautiful 👌🏼
