beautifully simple video Bob, thanks. love it. I seem to always get stuck at the walk the claws back the other way once i have tied off the 2 ends and then need to bash the holder and it lets go.

Ahh but did you get it? The trick is in the speed, heats the wire so it bends easily. And then will break with the heat. Cheers.

Yeah,Bob,I understand that for sure,Matey. It's the dummies that will latch onto the "gripple" thing,and,then when they DO come to use a proper Gripple won't know their arse from their elbow. I love your down to earth way of presenting a fencing video. Good stuff. I learned the hard way about "walking" the Hayes claws along the chain, {Mainly because the spring did not work AT ALL}and when it gave way I nearly lost a couple of fingers. Awrabest,Allison

The double loop knot used in 2.5mm Waratah longlife Tyeasy fails at about 38% of the breaking strain of the wire. The figure 8 in the same wire 68%
@bobmayesb
@bobmayesb 4 жыл бұрын
Mike Jones no argument from me. But a figure 8 is harder to learn and uses more slack wire to make the joint. I cant use it building a strainer.

@@bobmayesb Have you seen the speed knot Bob? Lot stronger than the double loop and it's just the same amount of twisting like any other knot! have a geez at it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5-XmaeZfq5oqM0&pp=ygUKc3BlZWQga25vdA%3D%3D

Darned if I can get the wire to snap off. Should I be using high tensile? I'm using "easy tie" 3.5 ml.

Hi Tuan i use 2 types. Knipex brand 7010 piano wire / bolt cutters and Gallagher / Maun brand electric fence pliers. Both not cheap but last years as long as they are oiled occasionally. Cheers Bob.

Allison Wilson - hi , the trick requires two things, first the wire needs to be Hi tensile not soft ( hard to bend not easy) then the trick is speed , whilst tge wire is warm from winding around itself bend the handle 90deg. And wind quickly with a bit of tension pulling out in a circular motion. Go for it.

@@bobmayesb Right,gotcha,Bob. I have been using "easy tie". I do have some "Hi tensile",but,gave up on it, as it seemed to have a mind of it's own,and,there were times when I accidentally got a kink,and,trying to straighten it caused it to snap exactly where I didn't want it to. Okay,I'll get your message to sink in,practice in my head tonight,and,have another go at it with a fresh head tomorrow. I'm trying to tighten plain wire fences with some extra strands to stop pesky lambs from escaping! . They are pushing my buttons at the moment. Thanks for your hint,Bob. I'm stubborn. I won't give up,but,my hands aren't functioning too well at the moment.Awrabest,Allison

Allison Wilson - ti easy is hi tensile and what i use. Soft wire will not twist snap, it just screws. I use soft for electric fences and gripples to easily retention.
@highphysics3617
@highphysics3617 5 жыл бұрын
@@bobmayesb Hi Bob,I chose the Ti easy, thinking it was more obedient than Hi Tensile,and,yes,I am using it on electric fencing,as well as adding single strands to a neighbour's "cow" fence to close the gaps a bit,and,hopefully keep the lambs restrained. There are all manner of used rolls,and,bits,hanging on three limbs,strainer posts, sheep shed,etc,etc, most of it left behind by Blaze Aid after the bush fire last March. So there is an untitled selection of just about everything imaginable. I've lost track of which was mine,and,which was the stuff Blaze Aid supplied. The electric fence is easy, as I went to a lot of trouble to set up ratchet strainers on the hot wires,and,it has been well worth it. Blaze Aid did the boundary electric as it was urgent after the fire,but,I asked them to leave the rest on the boundary as I prefer to do it myself. Most of the internal fences are plain wire,and,some ringlock. Gettin' a bit sick of all the fencing I can tell ya. Okay,I'll have to persevere with this tail snap business even though I keep looking at your video.

That is no way to tie a knot. There is some real dodgy stuff about fencing on here.
@stephenphillips8463

Another so called fencing expert whom knows very little,, why are you working on the wire side of your fence, always stand on the post side, when that wire breaks when straining, as they do, they always recoil back on the wire side and then take your eye out, standing on the post side protects you. A simple procedure but must for safety.

Come ON,Bob!!!! The chain "claws" on the Hayes wire strainer are NOT gripples Don't confuse the "novice" fencer. Figure 8 knot is far superior to a join like the one you made. A figure 8 knot spreads the load of the strained wire where it joins.
