there was Kerry Marx for a year or two but Bob was the guitarist who played with johnny the longest and I'm pretty sure Bob played on the 1969 live recording at San Quentin I believe Luther Perkins died in aug 1968 definitely love the Bob Wooton sound!

Si lo piensas, es impresionante que lo que queda del grupo de Johnny Cash venga a cantar a tu boda y que poco tiempo después fallecieran Bob y Holland... Una boda de auténtico recuerdo, para un fan es impresionante 😃

+Amir Matin True, but it was originally Luther Perkins who played with Cash in the band "Tenessee Two" (later Teneessee Three). When Luther died in a house-fire in 1968 Bob Wootton took over. Nevertheless, great guitar player and sound

This is perfect and it is very much because Johnny's original drummer W.S. Holland (the first rock'n'roll drummer ever). Today Holland run his own band, The New Tennesee Three. I think he could have stayed with Bob Wootton for more years, but I understand very much he want his own band. W.S. Holland "is" Tennessee 3 and he will rock on forever!

In John's autobiography he said he was offered the song 'City of New Orleans' but Luther couldn't figure out the chords. If Bob would have been with the band back then John probably would have recorded the song instead of Arlo Guthrie. Even so, Luther was definitely a guitar legend!

Wow great voice of Bob. Almost sounds like Johnny. Keeping the rhythm of the song like it was made. W.S. Holland looked good to. Bob & Luther had that touch.

My wife drew an original black n white pencil art pic of Jonny , bob and WS Holland , we took it too a show they did and they signed it , the icing woulda been if Jonny had come back to sign it. If anyone’s interested in seeing it I’ll post it on my site.

Bob Wooton doesn't play the half notes that Luther played, and he plays it faster. I like it anyway. If JR liked it then who am I to say. He was also married to Anita Carter, June's sister. They sang one song together, an old Buddy Holly tune. "It Doesn't Matter Anymore."

It's good but nothing can come close to the tone and styling of Luther Perkins. I think Luther is a better guitarist to because he played all the strings not just the top three he also took pride in his guitars and amps to spending hours on finding just the right settings and turning the guitar just right. If it weren't for Luther Perkins there wouldn't have been Bob Wootton. Luther should be more recognized among other guitarists and bands

You make a good point Aaron. But for me, it depends on the song, like for example, in songs like I Walk the Line, So Doggone Lonesome, Hey Porter, Get Rhythm, etc, I prefer Luther, but with songs like Folsom Prison, Cry, Cry, Cry, Tennessee Flattop Box, etc, I prefer Bob’s picking, so it really depends for other people.
