I just watched a long lost episode of Columbo. The great detective show with Peter Falk from the seventies and it featured Johnny Cash playing a country singer who kills his wife and her daughter by jumping out of a plane that he piloted with a parachute. Of course, Columbo figures it out and catches him. The main thing going through my mind watching the show was how powerful Cash was. Just hearing him talking you can hear that booming voice and how physically strong he was. What a man! He was one of the greats. And he had great memorable songs and a booming voice! Today’s country is dull by comparison. I’ll stick with Cash and Willie Nelson. That’s it!

Truncating tunes down to individual beats to fit into medley time alotted for this one performance, and not a player missing a single change or cue - quality musicianship, for sure! And I hate medleys w/a purple passion, but was near tears at this one's end - so good - Johnny's singing brings out emotions attached to these classic tunes we oft don't even recall are there, until we once again hear his iconic voice & it all floods back. Is that the Statler Brothers & Carter Sisters harmonizing on back-up vocals?
