As is the normal at every Frittenden run Grasstrack, the racing was exceptional. In the 250cc Solo's, with so many from the Youth Intermediate class coming up into the adult racing, the class has all of a sudden got a far more competitive look to it, and so it proved here. Luke Harris just about edged favouritism to take the class, but there were plenty of dangers around, not least Charlie Wood, this youngster hasn't got many meetings under his belt, but he shows no fear at all, and plenty of speed. All he needs to do is get out the start better. Austin Riches, Hayden Watts, Jake Breeze, Jordan Derrick, Max Derrick, and Harrison Rogers are all up from the Intermediate class, and all are a danger to the older generation of riders, included in these are Tim Greig, Richie Knight, Russell Little, Karl Bedingfield, and Adam Hawker. Some great racing through the heats, with a terrific final.
A rising star in the 350cc class is without doubt Cameron Taylor. Brought along nice and steady by his father and former 350cc star himself Mark Taylor. Up against northern raider Andrew Whitaker, South Eastern Centre stars Dave Mears, Gareth Hickmott, and Luke Clifton, Taylor really showed his potential.
Two big names in the 500cc Solo class, in Edward Kennett & Chad Wirtzfeld. This would be a clash to savour, with Chad's flat out, leg trailing style, against Kennett's also very spectacular style of racing. Who would come out on top?
Bob Dolman, Jason Prynne, Dave Hammond, Tim Mount, Tim Curnock, and Martin Adams all fought out some good racing in the Upright Solo class, with Tim Mount going better than ever this season, but local star in this class, Bob Dolman is always very hard to beat.
Mitch Godden/Paul Smith race in Europe so much, it was good to see them make an appearance in the UK, and you can see why they are one of the very best crews in Europe now. They might not have had what looked like an easy day if the Welsh crew of Shaun Hughes & Louis Bennett could of managed to keep their front wheel down on the start. Having one of the most spectacular races of the day, when almost flipping off the line, they came from way back to almost snatch victory from Josh Goodwin & Liam Brown. Absolutely brilliant riding from these guys. Also good rises from Simon Field/Shane Freeman, Paul Whitelam/Richard Webb, Jordan Smith/Joe Page, and Chris Hay/Karl Hocaniuk (Despite a spill).
The LH Sidecars are always very strongly contested in the South East Centre, and but for losing 3 crews during practice fails, it would've been even tougher racing. Rob Heath/Kyle Fish are always the team to beat when they are right, and they were certainly right this day. Could any of the other crews including British Champions Michael & Tim Phillips, Josh Penfold/Dan Woodbridge, Tony Penfold/Ryan Barker, Tommy Penfold/William Naden, Billy Penfold/Callum Ray, Steve North/Steve North jnr, and the improving Joe & Jordan Holland do anything to stop Heath & Fish from taking another Battle of Britain crown?
What can i say about the RH Sidecars apart from WOW! This class is at the moment the blue ribbon class in Grasstrack, and after some unbelievable racing through the heats, we were treated to one of the best finals you could ever want to see. Everyone was on the edge of their seats waiting for this, and they didn't disappoint. Which crew would take the win? Mark Cossar/Carl Blyth, the fast starting crew of Terry Saunters/Liam Brown, or would this be the day Mark's younger brother finally puts one over on his multi champion brother. Could the fast improving Dale & Jordan Fish take a win against such stiff competition? Or what about Matt Fumarola/Andi Wilson, or Michael Austin/Vinny Branch? They've all got a big win in them, it's just a matter of time. What a fantastic meeting for all involved, and a great watch.
