This conversation makes you realize how some actors are very serious about whatever role they are playing. Tom Cruise talking to Ron Kovic and spending time with him, shows how serious he is about his craft.

Amazing that this interview was done before a single frame of this great movie was shot, because what they would end up turning out was a triumph, Tom totally deserved the Oscar for best actor , Ron spilled his guts out and Oliver put his whole heart into this beautiful film.

This whole interview is so heartwarming, Tom Cruise is a fairly big star, yet he forms a close connection with Ron Kovic, you get the feeling there a strong connection between them that is not solely based on the movies.

Somehow Tom was able to look like a teenager again at that time. In Rain Man he was looking older and then when he did ''Born on the fourth of July'' he looked 18.

It's about the look you have in your eyes. Naive look = looks younger. Cynical and jaded look = looks older. Actors can change this

It was the hair and suit in rain man that made him seem older. It’s also why Brad Pitt looked older in meet Joe black (1998) than in fight club (1999)

My father is a veteran who served in the Vietnam War. He is 80 years old this year. Although he wasn't injured like Ron Kovic, he was exposed to Agent Orange, which has caused him to suffer from various illnesses, and he struggles with PTSD, experiencing nightmares that prevent him from sleeping. I watched this old movie with my father for the first time, and we were deeply moved. I shed tears watching Tom Cruise's passionate performance. It seems that a good movie continues to shine even after a long time.

I was there at the set in Dallas. I went to the school in Dallas that was used for the set of the high school. My nephew looks a lot like Tom Cruise. And My wife got to speak to Oliver Stone when looking for items for the movie set. Tom is a fantastic actor. He reminds me so much of my nephew Johnny Bob. Peace all.

Absolutely one of my favorite movies. My father went to Vietnam and he struggled with many things after the war. I've seen first hand what many veterans went through . Alcoholism, drug abuse, nightmares the veterans administration flash backs. Many veterans suffered so much after coming home. Tom Cruise did a outstanding job representing veterans in this film.

Semper Fi! I served in the Marine Corps and Army for 10 years collectively as a military policeman. 4 in the Corps and 6 in the Army. I’m a disabled OEF veteran. I so much appreciate Ron’s story because it is the quintessential Marine Corps Vietnam veteran story of the Vietnam War. Thank you Tom and Oliver for taking the time to make this movie and shedding light on the imperfections in our country and our government. God bless you and I still watch the film from time to time and the VA is still a pain in the ass for veterans.

I really enjoyed this interview. Thank you for posting. I found this informative and fascinating and not to mention impressive. What an eye-opener on the process of making a movie. It’s admirable to see how hard all of these people work. It’s also so very sad to see how our world gets carried away with the news and creating stories because watching Tom here he just seems like a good kid who was laser focused and extremely passionate about making movies and he takes it seriously and he gives his all and I just don’t get it…. why people say the things that they say and why people believe it?? I think people are very naïve and ignorant and it’s unfortunate
