Three very pretty variations - and you make it easy to understand and definitely something I want to try out. (Also, such a simple pattern; I've copied it by hand by using 5mm graph paper so I have it in my little "notebook of possibilities".) I could imagine it would be very pretty if I use your different variations to create a pattern in the lace; chevrons of whole-stitch and half-stitch roses/virgins could be quite nice for a bookmark or a small table runner. And good practice, of course.
