Thank you! I have to say you are going to be my go to person for learning Bobbin Lace. You are so clear and I love there is no distracting music and you explain everything that is very helpful, then the close up wow, genius idea. I had never at 62 years young heard of Bobbin Lace before until recently. so I am seriously starting at the beginning. You are the one I have been looking for. I am looking forward to seeing the next video on this book marker!!! My plan is to watch this one to the end just listen and watch the bobbins move and take notes then I'll watch and do with the close-up. I'm truly excited now. I do have to stop and go look at your channel videos for a minute, go get a notebook then come back and start this from the beginning.

Thank you, so exciting that I will be helping your lace journey, it is a wonderful craft to make and if you have any questions then please ask, I know it's not always easy making instructions for everyone. I am planning a beginners course of lessons so that you get a complete explanation as to what is happening and why. Looking forward to achieving these. Happy lacing.

I like your clarity of why to do things and what each move or stitch achieves. Instead of making an arbitrary choice of which way the gimps should be treated and needing a cheat sheet, it seems to me that you simply work the gimp as if it were the lone member of a pair. Work the gimp with the pairs in turn doing half stitch (Cross twist) so the gimp travels, whether working left to right or right to left, the pairs you meet work with the gimp according to that pattern. with the pairs in turn. Is there any situation this would not work?

That does make sense, however if you look in different books, some will say to go one way and other's the opposite way, and not everyone will see it as you do, hence the cheat sheet to help other's learn. As long as you make sure that you work the gimp in the opposite way to each side, you will achieve the gimp. I have found after 20 years of teaching that unless you work a gimp regularly, you are not likely to remember the directions, so having a little note on your pillow to start with is a great help.

Is there a reason to put in the gimp that way other than custom? Would it work the other way if you were consistent?
@LouWoo11 ай бұрын
You can work the gimp either way as long as you work the opposite when you work the gimp in the other direction. If you look at books, there is no set rule, some say over and under, under and over and some say the other way round. What is clear is that if you work in one direction, say you go left as over and under, when the gimp travels to the right in the other direction it has to be opposite so it would be under and over. Hope that makes sense.

How do I start with 4 open bobbins at a point
@LouWoo9 ай бұрын
Hello, I would hang them on a single pin and then hang the first pair on the pin, then add the next pair making sure it goes outside the first pair, one bobbin on the left of the first pair and the other bobbin on the right of the first pair, like a rainbow. Then add the next pair on the outside of the 2 pairs, one bobbin on the left and one bobbin on the right so you keep the rainbow going. Then add the last pair in the same way. This means that all the original pairs will be split up, making new pairs. Hope this makes sense.
