I just realised I'm not mainly watching your BobBlast videos because of the tipps and tricks but seeing someone fully enjoy what he is doing and not regretting anything.

Love all your great videos Bob. Thanks so much for putting them out here for us! For all my experiments with watercolors and acrylics I have never tried watercolors on gesso. Can/should this be done? Or is there a "gesso" specifically for watercolors?

Subbed. It also doesn't hurt that he has the most expensive paper on earth .

Great tips on doing the edges thank you. Just wonder is watercolour paper is cheaper than using Acrylic paper? Just wonder why you choose watercolour paper. Sorry if I am being stupid asking.

Great tips. So if you're mounting the watercolor paper onto the board using spacers, how have you protected it against the elements: dust, dirt, bumps, scrapes, etc? Seems like the image is still pretty unprotected.

You haven't explained why you would use watercolor paper at all. Is it just for the deckled edge? Why not use canvas or another kind of paper?
@thundering15 жыл бұрын
Can't speak for Bob, but there are a few general reasons. One would be, yes, the ability to create the deckled edges which is merely a style he likes for his paintings as far as presentation. Good thick watercolor paper (140lb - 300lb) can be cheaper to purchase than canvas, so a bit of savings. It provides a different surface than canvas, particularly for oils. Unless you lay your gesso onto canvas really thick, you will always have the texture of the canvas fabric, which will inhibit creating smooth fine details. IF your style is broad strokes, a rougher style, then this won't matter to you at all, but if you like creating finely detailed images - hair, grass and weeds, etc. - than primed watercolor paper. Why specifically "watercolor paper" and not some other type of paper? Watercolor is made to take more abuse than, say, printer paper - that's really the only reason. I hope this helps, and happy painting!

I am confused ( nothing new here) you did not use water in this gesso yet in another of your videos' ( drip trees and orange gesso) you used a fair amount of water
