I suffered a bulge 13 years ago that took almost one and half years, now two months ago I experienced disc extrusion and that's painful like hell you can't move your head or hand because of pain. After MRI I met doc and he told about surgery I was in shock, then I met a therapist and told him about the case he assured me it will be done without surgery. Now after 1 & half month alhamdulillah I am walking sitting and I feel 70-75 % better than before. Here I would like to tell everyone that even you are going with surgery your 70% problem will not be solved without therapy.

I have a protrusion and it compresses the spinal canal. The doctors told me there is no chance it would go away even though the pain almost completely disappeared after 8 weeks. I feel like I am kind of disabled for life because any wrong movement could inflame the nerve again. About 2 years ago I did an mri of my lumbar, the results were: A grade 1 retrolisthesis of L5 on S1 Modic type II, large inferiorly extruded central to right paracentral disc protrusion with near-complete obliteration of the spinal canal at the L5-S1 in part aggravated by ligamentum flavum hypertrophy at the inferior endplate L5 level, L5-S1 severe central spinal stenosis at the superior endplate to the midportion of S1, there was additional severe spinal stenosis. There was deformity of the thecal site displaced posteriorly towards the left with moderate right and severe left foraminal narrowing with impingement of the exiting left L5 nerve root. The overall size of the large disc herniation was 2.9 cm x 1.4cm AP x 1.7cm transverse. Two rounds of PT and a lumbar discectomy later (1yr 3mo post-op) and I get another mri: L5-S1, there is disc bulge with central disc extrusion with minimal caudal migration. Mild central canal stenosis with moderate left neural foraminal stenosis. So while the surgery did improve things, it didn't end up being what my surgeon promised me. I want to make sense of what can be done now, I'm getting a lumbar facet injection, I need to get straight talk on this, my options are limited at present(insurance) so a second opinion is out. I need to know so I can advocate for my health properly. Please Bob and Brad, help me understand can I get rid of the nerve pain, can this heal? Will I need surgery again? HELP!

Thanks so much for all your awesome tips. Yes you can heal discs, there are holistics and homeopathic injections under the skin, called PRP or traumeel injections. I have a hand strain sprain from work, a very painful trigger thumb. I.just had some PRP done and started to have less pain and more flexibility. It can also be done on the spine!!! 🤞🌺🌺🌹.

In the beginning I couldn't drive, I couldn't turn my jead to the left, I was in excruciating pain (felt like a blow torch on my arm all the time) and weird stuff (like touch a surface with 1 hand it was warm and dry to touch, touch same surface with more affected hand it felt cold and wet), numbness, tingling, you name it now 2.5 months later I have a little psin nack of neck and sometimes in 1 arm when I use it a lot. You have neuropathy. I have what you have down my left leg. It's an everyday thing. It's for life. Parts of my leg are completely numb. Other parts are tingling and burning with sporadic jolts of electricity like shocks. Gabapentin and Lyrica do help with that somewhat. It's definitely not a cure-all though. I've had this since the winter of 1991.

Hi Bob & Brad I've had chronic pain in the middle of my lumbar, out to my right butt, down the back of the right hamstring, and into my right foot. Everything since May 2022. I start to worry if I'll ever get back to feeling pain-free. I have 2x disc bulges, degenerative changes, and an annular fissure from an MRI I got in September as pain didn't get better... Annular fissure to the right in my L5-S1 disc. The pain came as I did a heavy set on deadlifts and suddenly felt a sharp pain. Been in pain ever since... I've tried chiropractic care, and have also done physiotherapy. Both without luck. Also have done core strengthening and McKenzie press ups. No luck there either. I'm about to give up on life, but I REALLY DON'T WANT to get surgery. I don't have bowel problems so my doctor says she won't even considerate surgery, as it's only done on people who have bowel problems, like holding urine in, etc. Cheers from Denmark

I don’t agree with that. The worse it is, the more debilitating it is. The person is forced to recover instead of constantly bandaiding it. Proper diagnosis and education must be given to people at their stage of injury, but unfortunately most are left with prescription drugs and a real lack of concern. It’s the Real world. Must fend for yourself. Try and educate oneself on this injury.

Hi doctors, I have L5-S1 disc protrusion measured 10x18mm. It started acting out in summer 2020. This caused sciatic pain and consequently impacted my ability to walk, stand and sit. I’ve had 3 epidurals since then. I’m doing the exercises and listening to my body. What’s strange is that when I bend forward it feels way better. Also, I’m able to pull myself up on my toes with no problem and walk on my heels. I don’t really have pain in my lower back much but the back of my leg hurts and I still have radiating cold, tingling, burning etc sensations going down to my toes. All doctors say different things and it makes me confused and frustrated. I’ve had an X-ray of my hips and leg discrepancy too - orthopedic surgeon said my bones are good. I just don’t understand anything anymore. Does it all sound like my herniation is gone/reduced, and is this just leftover pain that can fix by strengthening my muscles? But then why do I still have radiating pain down the leg and to the toes? What do I do? Thank you for everything you’re doing. Your channel gives me more hope and information than any doctor of mine.

@@evgeniyab7567 hi I have almost same kind of symptoms. MRI shows protrusion on L4/L5 disc. below is what report says. Straightening of lumber spine due to muscles spasm.Degenerative intervertebral disc changes noted at L4/5 disc levels. At L4/5 disc level there is evidence of obvious lumber canal stenosis represented by posterior protrusion seen compressing the thecal sac and nerve recesses at that level. At L5/S1 disc level there is diffuse posterior disc bulge seen flatting the thecal sac. So when I get in morning my back is stiff I need to do some sit ups to loosen it. I can't stand for long. I can't sit and walk for long. Left hip portion gets a thumping pain So I need to sit on my feet and pull my knees to chest to get relief. Can you guide what you did to get relief? Please.

@@iak1942 Hi, I’m very sorry to hear about your pain! However, be optimistic, if I was able to fix myself there’s a good chance you’ll be able too! I’ve had an enormous amount of physical therapy and yoga (listen to your body and be careful), 4 steroid epidural injections, plenty of medications, chiropractic adjustments and Accupuncture - that’s in US. More recently in Germany, I’ve had cortisone+Vitamine B infusions, blockade shots and laser treatments. But honestly nothing worked as good as work on my mind and my emotions. As you can see from my previous comments, I’ve read several books of dr Sarno + dr Dispensa, and watched many videos on the connection of mind and body. And, it’ll sound miraculous, but I really started improving only after I became aware of my repressed emotions, I felt them so deeply, cried a lot, worked through them and continue doing so, and it made me me again. What medical professionals weren’t able to fix in almost 2 years, I fixed in 2 weeks. I live normally now as if nothing ever happened. When you read “Healing your back pain” and “MindBody Prescription” by Dr Sarno - you’ll see if that’s the case for you. I wish you to get better as soon as possible. No one deserves the pain and literally the torture we’re going through. The most important thing is to know that over 80% people on the planet have issues almost like ours but only a very small percentage have terrible pain for a long time. So be positive and work on your mind in addition to everything you do for your body.

So long as the disc herniated, ie the nucleus pushes through the annulus, the disc will not return to its former state. Yes, symptoms will improve, and yes, some may be reabsorbed, but a disc herniation NEVER heals. A bulge, I am not so sure about. I suspect the problem with bulges is that it is a disc on the edge of herniation and so it is less likely to cause symptoms but more likely to escalate.
@johnbr59

How do I know this? 12 years with the problem on a single level, which was originally a moderate extrusion. I even gave the original injury a year and a half to heal. Despite being pain free for years after this, it is still a recurring problem. My last scan was actually taken about 4-5 months after a very bad relapse, back in 2019. By that point I was pretty much pain free once more. And yet the scan still showed pretty much the same herniated, with some pressure on the nerves. And yet the exact moment that scan was taken, I had no pain. So what does all this tell you? Symptoms will flare and die down, the disc will heal a little bit but NEVER completely, and relapse is always a danger if you push it too much or are simply not careful

Am I understanding it correctly does that mean the worse it gets the higher chance it has to fully ecovered???? Or it’s the percentage of going back to the better stage?

If it is getting worse or better by day than it will heal eventually and If it’s stuck at a certain pain level for a while than it most likely will need surgery

Recovering from a (incomplete) Cadua Equina Syndrome now 6 weeks after surgery of a sequestred big L4/L5 disc hernia.. The bowel and blatter area was affected but not terminal damaged so it's ok (but still a little numb), and the right calf and foot is still kind of numb and so, but improves.. Walking quite ok with a crutch for support (mostly at home without), so it's getting better.. I guess I was lucky to get help in time. ;) But please do a video of that important injury.. !

So your sequestred disc caused Cadua Equina? I thought Bob and Brad said it would heal better sequestred disc. How long from your herniated disc did it take for Cadua Equina to happen? I just found out about this syndrome and been in pain due to a slipped disc for 20 yrs or more and now SO scared of getting this syndrome that I can't even sleep.
