I've had costo for nearing 3 months now (due to mild pneumonia beforehand, coupled with chronic bad posture). Had an x-ray come up negative for any serious issues and was officially diagnosed with costo a couple of weeks ago. It is a very sharp pain that was only brought on with laughing, certain movements, or very hard coughing. It was starting to get less sensitive to agitation with regular anti-inflammatories and rest, but recently after a weekend out, I aggravated it and now I have a dull aching in addition to the sharp pains that only come on with certain activities. I already follow the channel and did some digging and was glad to find this video. Thanks so much for putting this out. I tried out the exercises and there's no pain when I do them, so I plan to incorporate them into my day along with things to improve my posture. Hopefully, this helps. I hate avoiding laughing constantly, and just want it to clear up.

I had pain in my chest, right at the xyphoid process, for years, maybe 8-10 years now. I've complained numerous times and had EKGs, asthma evaluations, even been to outrival therapy and they didn't say costochondritis. It wasn't until I saw an orthopedist that she said "oh, definitely 100% costochondritis." She had me take Aleve for two weeks to knock down chronic inflammation and I'll be darned, it worked. I've kept it at bay since then with hot yoga, but will add these stretches too.

I lay in bed for four days suffering from an attack of costochondritis bilaterally on the sternum. Nothing helped. I've had it for over twenty years and to say I'm sick of it would be the most colossal understatement. Not one cardiac specialist suggested costochondritis. I was diagnosed by a doctor on the phone eighteen years after first suffering from it. As of today, I can hardly move and at its worst, it sent me to the ground and I had to crawl on the street for some distance before I could get up.

Bob & Brad I was in a car accident and my airbags deployed, it hit me square in the chest. Went to ER, nothing was broken but I have been in pain ever since. They said possibly bruised sternum and/or costochondritis. I will try these. One thing that has helped me, I swim so I did some very easy freestyle laps. I didn’t try to push the water, I just did the motions. I only did a few laps but I felt looser. I also did a lot of stretching and then I sat in a hot tub. I felt better the next day. I fear sneezing and coughing. It’s been a month and those 2 are still very painful. If I had a bruised sternum how long does it take to heal?

Got a ct, bloodwork, urine sample and even took a cocktail that would numb my stomach lining if it was severe indigestion or acid reflux. Everything looked good and cocktail didn’t help the pain. After my first session I felt almost immediate relief.

When you mentioned decreased mobility of the rib attachments in the upper back I thought of things like osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and scoliosis. But I also wondered if there is any evidence that people with joint hypermobility syndromes (which can lead to osteoarthritis in joints receiving chronic wear and tear) tend to develop Tietze syndrome more than the regular population? How’d it go? I’ve been feeling this for about three weeks now (going for my fourth). Can’t go to the doctors because of the increase of (the varient) covid cases in my area. And still dont have my vaccine😩. However mine started with pressure/tightness in my chest mostly in my sternum. Now I feel more pain than pressure, and I can feel the pain in my left side of my chest, lower ribs (lower sternum) right side of my chest, discomfort in my sternum, in my back (shoulder blades). However this started (july 3rd at around 7pm) because I remember I had cracked my upper back, neck, and sternum by accident due to a brisk movement while drying my hair. Now i’ve been like this since I felt that loud crack

I recently purchased an air compressor from Harbor freight. It didn’t end up meeting the power requirements for the application that I needed it for, so I chose to return it. The day had finally come where I decided to clean the air compressor up before returning it. I drained the oil and everything & brought it back to the store almost as new as when I purchased it. While I was pulling it from out of my basement stairwell, the weight shifted and then the compressor ended up almost falling down the stairs because it was so top-heavy. The reason I said almost was because I ended up lunging towards it and grabbing it somehow, before it actually landed on the stairwell and slid down the stairwell and cracked or broke. I literally caught all that weight w/ my rib cage & arms & sheer determination. It was absurd. You had to have been there to witness the sheer willpower someone of my weight & height had to have, in order to even be capable of what I had done. (Very Awkward Angle) I’ve been in pain for a week straight from the occurrence & I firmly believe it’s costochondritis. The pain is exactly in the 4th 5th & 6th rib cage.

i’ve been having serious chest pain for 8 months & also insanely bad breathing problems, turns out that i have this & the breathing went worse due to my worrying & anxiety. If you feel the pain, trust me don’t chance it. Peace of mind will help settle you & also reduce the pain in some ways!, time, relaxation techniques & anti inflammatory tablets & being careful in what i do daily. my doctor recommended these. Glad to know im not gonna die yet. lol. Good luck to anyone suffering as some days are unbearable & im back to square 1!.

Wow! Thank you for this video! You guys are the best! You have helped me with different pains for the past 3 years and help me understand why I got or have those pains. I've learned so much! Thank you! I started with pain around 20 years old, along my left lower rib area. It started towards the front on the side a bit and pulling that muscle area with my hand helped give me some relief. The pain would go all the way around to my back and I always had a knot on that side of my back. It would start up when if was laughing a lot for a long time. Laughing would be so painful. The Dr said I might have a strained muscle so Dr gave me a muscle relaxer. That didn't help. After some years the pain stopped being constant and would come back every now and then, still does till this day. Now 39 with 4 kids and have severe Abdominis Recti that caused a lot of pain. I've learned a lot about my stomach muscle problem and how it caused more back pain, but still didn't understand why I had that side rib muscle pain. During pregnancy and postpartum when I would wear maternity pants with the elastic band that would go up to my ribs it would irritate that same muscle area along my lower rib. It was only putting a little bit of pressure cause it's elastic. Still doesn't make sense. Till I saw a tiktok video of a physicsl therapist showing movements for costochondritis or slipping rib and all the symptoms sounded just like the pain I was having. I searched it on youtube and found your video. I did use socks too, but found tennis balls or those dryer cotton balls habe worked too. It was great to see why what I've been doing helps me feel better and takes away the tightness and pain. It's been even better to have a better idea and understanding why I've had this pain. Thank you!!

Don't take ibuprofen for too long . It upsets your stomach, then you have to line your stomach again, its a hassle. Stay safe and strong ❤️🙏🌻

Hi Bob and Brad. I question if I even have Costochondritis. I never feel pain when sneezing or coughing. My pain started with upper back burning pain near the cervical /thoracic area. Then the pain moved to my chest and sternum and now lower ribs. Also my traps are constantly tense and spasming for 2 months now. I wonder if my weak tight traps are causing my symptoms that look like Costochondritis…? What are your thoughts?

My son's doctor said that he has costochondritis but says that the inflammation of his cartilage is pushing on the nerves making his belly incredibly painful as well. Would this work for him or is there something different he should try. He's been in pain for about 2 weeks now and he's on 800mg ibuprofen, 300 mg Neurontin (also on this for nerve issues in his back) and prevacid for other tummy issues.

I hurt my sternum by falling face first on a water bottle. It's been 4 days. My question is, should I be stretch as I heal or let it rest. I have been doing deep breathing through the pain to prevent lung issues. Thank you for your time.

I think i injured myself weight lifting during a Crossfit session, not training for the past 10 weeks has been terrible and really getting me down. I have mild Kyphosis in the spine which has been OK the last ten years since i gave up rugby. My costo is mainly affecting ribs area low down on the right hand side and the sternum. I really feel for everyone that has to experience this :( I have purchased a backpod to try and help, fingers crossed! Thanks for the exercises, i am starting them right now, feels good!
