aRGH! Had knee surgery 2 weeks ago, I wish I had this video! I used crutches wrong for 5 days before getting to P.T. In that period of time, I aggravated the muscles of my upper chest and ribs severely, especially at the sternum junction. Im told I have costal chondritis now! I didnt have much upper body strength but used my arms and was leaning over on the crutches. I never experienced any real pain from my meniscus surgery. But the pain in the muscle of chest is sometimes almost unbearable. Its 2 weeks out, and I still can't lift anything ta all with my arms that is more than a pound or two, or else I have terrible chest muscle pains! Hey Everyone - Listen to Bob and Brad!!

Bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome, so I'm picking up a walker with bilateral armrests on Monday. Never used one before, but excited it may give me more mobility with less pain in my hip and hands.

I want one of those canes with the fold-out seat...handy if u get sudden fatigue while standing in line. Golf spectators use them.

I am 66 years old. Last year I broke my leg, ankle and foot. I was given crutches at the hospital. I couldn't use them so I purchased a knee scooter. It was awesome!

Hi Deborah, Saw your post on the Bob & Brad Show. I am so sorry for all you have gone through. It sounds so painful. Are you doing better? I broke my foot last week, and am currently in a boot. I’m very nervous if I have to have surgery they will want me to use crutches. I will be 64 in four days and have osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and scoliosis, which was never been treated as a child. I have to hold onto something upon rising from a squatting position. I also had a fractured vertebrae from a fall a couple of years ago. I think if I were told to wear crutches I’d fall flat on my face. Even when I was young, I was a klutz. Plus, I’m completely on my own.

Sorry, Deborah, hit Send too soon . My question is do you think you would have been able to handle crutches if you were 64 with these particular conditions? I am hoping the doctor will understand.

I broke my hip, knee, and leg. Took alot of time to heal but I'm getting there. Right now I'm walking with the crutches but I feel comfortable putting my weight on the crutches. I know it is the wrong way but it keeps off my full weight off my hips.

hey doc I injured my right knee playing soccer around november of this previous year . it bent outwards making me think I had broke but I slowly extended it straight and I was able to continue cause of the adrenaline but after the game it was hurting so much that I was limping, it took me about a week to be able to walk normally again but it still hurts if I try and bend it or squat on it and it has also been swollen ever since. what treatments would you recommend

True story;p mom's bud, Rustle, both of them in Halifax, Nova Scotia, (they met as he was selling Avon) well 10 yrs ago Rustle became a double amputy. Diabetic, very poor diet and on social assistance the gouv gave him an electric wheelchair ♿, still he wouldn't take proper care of himself so the gouv took it away then he had to have his legs operated on, he never woke up! He'd left mom 5K which she said she'd like to redonate to the hospital 🏥 as she volunteered there as they always looking for money (who isn't?), I said "Mom they just cut off his legs, I don't think he'd be happy if you"..... Idk if she did or not, too much information 🤦🐾🎠💆🙂

Neither of my kids had souses, nope 🙅🏻, don't they look awful (here kid have some plastic) and life's tough, learn early plus they're crutches, the kind you wouldn't want having just left your armpits, what?

Thank you, Leeza Lee! This is a timely and relevant topic for many and presented some useful considerations. Yet, I watched the video waiting for that “formula” to calculate when someone is too old for crutches. (At any age, I think crutches are very challenging.) Rather than approach the topic as being age-related, I would find it useful to learn the basics of crutches, walkers, and other mobility alternatives; as well as the patients and/or the problems for which they are best suited.
