I'm very sorry about your health problems and believe it or not, it never occurred to me that you had been drinking. I never thought that of you! If you want prayers you've got them from me. 🙏🙏🙏 Please stop telling perfectly healthy people to go gluten free. It's unethical and unbecoming behavior. As someone who has lived with Ataxia my entire life (due to Cerebral Palsy), I want to thank you for shining a light on this. It's not uncommon for people to assume I am drunk(including cops) and /or intellectually challenged. One thing people don't realize is that in addition to physical adjustments, anticipating things that could cause a fall is mentally exhausting as well. Be patient with yourself and keep sharing with us. Sending you all the love and good thoughts.

It makes so much sense. I can throw a ball to someone and it doesn't take much effort, but if I had to calculate all the trajectories and forces and physics behind hitting the target it would be mentally exhausting. The brain usually does all that subconsciously and it takes a huge part of the brain to do it. Throw a bug in the brain's programming so it doesn't do it well anymore and we have to do more of the exhausting calculations ourselves. Balance, speech, pretty much any muscle control needs calculations.

@@smallhouseinthemeadow6131 Hi, I'm a speech path and yes, ataxia can be caused by the cerebellum. The cerebellum moderates motor movement. It's the cerebellum that tells you that you are falling and helps with coordinated movement along our motor pathways. Hope that made sense. I'm not a neurologist but as a speech path, I do have to have some understanding of how motor skills are affected by different parts of the brain.
@Gothlite-i1l2 жыл бұрын
I know you are wishing only the best but it is wrong to tell anyone to 'get well soon.' Many people do not 'get well' and live some of their best years with whatever condition they have. I am a differently-abled person who will not get better and I'm fine with it.
@annb24022 жыл бұрын
Bob, I'm 73 and have CP. It affects my speech and coordination. My advice is to keep on doing what you're doing as long as you enjoy doing it. Of all the issues with CP for me the hardest to deal with was my speech impairment. I earned a MA in rehab counseling and during my career I served adults and children with developmental disabilities. Years ago one of my co-workers said something to me that really helped me put things into perspective. I don't remember how we got onto the subject but we were talking about my speech impairment. He told me that to him my speech impairment was no different than if a had a foreign accent. We then started laughing comparing it to the doctors from foreign countries we knew who had accents and that it didn't hold them back at all. Yes, people will make assumptions but it helped me to think of it that way. I hope it helps you too. Wishing you the best always.

Well Bob, looks like you’ve got a specialist praying for you! 😉 And I’m willing to bet he’s got some praying friend as well! With so many of us praying for you, I’d say you’re in the hands of folks who are faithfully willing to lay you at the feet of the highest Physician you could hope to have. ♥️🙏🏼

Prayers! ❤ I’m in my 30s and was diagnosed with axial spondyloarthritis and for a few months have been unable to walk without a walker and I can say from experience praying for other people while I’m hurting has been an amazing blessing! Turning complaining into a blessing on someone else has helped so much! ❤

You two. I hope you know how much you’re loved and respected. Your integrity, knowledge, and generosity, the way you work together, it’s all a shining light in a world that has gotten pretty messy. Thank you for being you, for still showing integrity. You want others to face their adversities and do what they can, and you are doing the same. You ARE blessings to each of us. I’m praying for you-and as you requested, for your patients and audience too. We’re with you for the long haul, brothers.

You are very right. I have been having health issues for some yrs now, and have been isolating myself from people I know, off course thinking their lives are perfect and mine is not. Recently I touched base with most of them, to let them know my Mom passed. I was very surprised to hear what they have been dealing with. Even more worse than me. I learnt just like you`ve said, everyone has something they are dealing with.

I first found you guys, about seven years ago, when I was terrified that I was going to become disabled due to severe back pain. For a very long time now, I have come to this channel for serious wrist pain, leg pain, shoulder pain and even after an injury. You guys have been my go to guys for a lot of different problems over the years. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the work you do and the help you have given me and so many others. Just knowing that there were things I could do to improve my health, also saved me lots of anxiety, worry and major stress. I wish you guys the best for many more years to come and can never thank you enough for all that you do.

I, like your daughter, am also a speech language pathologist. Over the last 40 years, I’ve worked with a number of patients who have had speech difficulties such as yours. There are many compensatory strategies that your daughter will teach you that you will be able to implement to help make your speech more intelligible. What luck that you have an SLP right in the family! All the best.

I'm so sorry about your dad. My dad and uncle both had ALS and the best thing to say about it is, it just sucks. Hoping that more treatments and in time a cure can be found. My dads form of ALS also started in his throat which added to the time it took to make the final diagnose. They assumed a stroke due to his speech but it wasn't to be .

Thanks, Cindy. And sorry to hear that both your dad and uncle had it! That's rough. The "bulbar palsy" form that our dad's had is a strange one.
