I'm sorry Bob but I believe the gluten free diet will not help your form of ataxia. It's way overhyped as a cure all for just about everything.. I'm very sorry about your health problems and believe it or not, it never occurred to me that you had been drinking. I never thought that of you! If you want prayers you've got them from me. 🙏🙏🙏 Please stop telling perfectly healthy people to go gluten free. It's unethical and unbecoming behavior. Gluten containing grains are good healthy food for the majority of the world. They provide much needed fiber and vitimins

As someone who has lived with Ataxia my entire life (due to Cerebral Palsy), I want to thank you for shining a light on this. It's not uncommon for people to assume I am drunk(including cops) and /or intellectually challenged. One thing people don't realize is that in addition to physical adjustments, anticipating things that could cause a fall is mentally exhausting as well. Be patient with yourself and keep sharing with us. Sending you all the love and good thoughts.

It makes so much sense. I can throw a ball to someone and it doesn't take much effort, but if I had to calculate all the trajectories and forces and physics behind hitting the target it would be mentally exhausting. The brain usually does all that subconsciously and it takes a huge part of the brain to do it. Throw a bug in the brain's programming so it doesn't do it well anymore and we have to do more of the exhausting calculations ourselves. Balance, speech, pretty much any muscle control needs calculations.

@@smallhouseinthemeadow6131 Hi, I'm a speech path and yes, ataxia can be caused by the cerebellum. The cerebellum moderates motor movement. Bob, I'm 73 and have CP. It affects my speech and coordination. My advice is to keep on doing what you're doing as long as you enjoy doing it. Of all the issues with CP for me the hardest to deal with was my speech impairment. I earned a MA in rehab counseling and during my career I served adults and children with developmental disabilities. Years ago one of my co-workers said something to me that really helped me put things into perspective. I don't remember how we got onto the subject but we were talking about my speech impairment. He told me that to him my speech impairment was no different than if a had a foreign accent. We then started laughing comparing it to the doctors from foreign countries we knew who had accents and that it didn't hold them back at all. Yes, people will make assumptions but it helped me to think of it that way. I hope it helps you too. Wishing you the best always.

Thank you and Brad so much for all your videos. I have learned a lot and have received a lot of help from both of you. I am so glad you are going to continue to be involved with videos. I, too, concur with your daughters that it is good therapy for you. I have MS so I understand some of what you are going through. I am so thankful I do not suffer like many do with MS. Because of deciding to fight as hard as I can, I have actually done more physical activities since being diagnosed 17 years ago than I did prior to diagnosis. Prayers for you Bob and for everyone that suffers from any disease.

You two. I hope you know how much you’re loved and respected. Your integrity, knowledge, and generosity, the way you work together, it’s all a shining light in a world that has gotten pretty messy. Thank you for being you, for still showing integrity. You want others to face their adversities and do what they can, and you are doing the same. You ARE blessings to each of us. You are very right. I have been having health issues for some yrs now, and have been isolating myself from people I know, off course thinking their lives are perfect and mine is not. Recently I touched base with most of them, to let them know my Mom passed. I was very surprised to hear what they have been dealing with. Even more worse than me. I learnt just like you`ve said, everyone has something they are dealing with.

Truly sad to hear Bob is unwell. These are ironies of fate that a person who had helped millions of people to improve their health condition falls a victim to ill health himself. We can feel his ( including Brad) genuine desire to reach out to a helping hand to many unknown people. - something rare in this highly commercialised world. I am reminded of the Buddhist concept of 'impermanence.'I am certain he will not lose his good cheer. WE pray for you Bob.

There are many compensatory strategies that your daughter will teach you that you will be able to implement to help make your speech more intelligible. What luck that you have an SLP right in the family! All the best.

Hang in there, Bob! My mother also had an ataxia (Machado Joseph disease, which primarily impacts people of Portuguese ancestry). The National Ataxia Foundation has conferences and support groups and I learned a lot there about devices that can be used to make life easier (phones with large buttons, pens that are easier to grip, etc). My mom was often mistaken as being drunk, which was embarrassing for her. We kids also got ‘the stink eye’ from people in restaurants for not helping our mother more with her utensils, but she did not want our help because she felt it would speed her ataxia along. I hope people reading this will remember to not be judgemental when they see things they don’t understand. My mother (and we kids) had some real mental adapting to do in the early years, so be aware that there may be a transition for you and your family, too. Mom lived a full life and felt her ataxia was just ‘one of those things’ we all get to deal with and did not let it define her life. Sending love and prayers to you from California

I started watching you guys when I was stuck inside during the pandemic and you have become like real friends to me.
