Awesome interview. My dad had Flyers season tickets from 1968 to 1977. He took me to my first game in 1972. The old Spectrum. I remember I couldn’t wait to run through the turnstiles to see the player’s skating on the ice from the concourse. Those were the days. The best ever and Bobby Clarke was God.

Great interview! 55:49 NHL'ers around Sarasota: Scotty Bowman, Billy Barber, Larry Robinson, Jacques Lemaire. 57:05 How Clarke lost his 4 front teeth in 4 separate incidences. 58:44 "Nobody called the league up to get you suspended." 1:09:50 Nobody had better instincts than Wayne Gretzky. I wasn't even close to that. 1:17:26 Didn't know why other teams were afraid of his Broad Street Bullies. Most of them were not fighters. 1:19:38 Shero spent time with Tarasov. Came up with strategy to beat them. 1:22:17 Clarke said that Ferguson lied about telling Clarke to slash Kharlamov so he could take heat off Clarke. 1:25:35 Players all over the world (Russia, Sweden) just wanted to play hockey. Didn't care about politics. 1:25:53 Tretiak has been over to Bobby Clarke's house. 1:26:56 Being a player coach. Pat Quinn. 1:31:45 After his first year, Mike Keenan's ego so big that it was always the players’ fault. 1:33:11 Keenan tried to live up to the "Iron Mike" moniker. He went from team to team. His coaching style was just to abuse the players. Every team he left there was nothing left. It caught up with him everywhere he went. 1:34:49 How Keenan treated the Sutter twins (Ron and Rich). 1:35:25 Lindros situation. 1:42:13 Olympics. 1:42:46 Admits that Gretzky not being captain and not being in the shootout were horrible decisions. 1:43:54 Wife was mad that Clarke cross-checked Gretzky in the back. "How could you do that to that nice, young boy?" 1:47:20 Ron Hextall stuff.

"Everything for the team" is a huge theme for Clarke; mentioned it countless times across a wide variety of stories; from his time as a player, GM, and advisor.

Skip ahead to 55:37 minute mark to get to the actual interview with Clarke. The first 55 minutes is bullshit and ads.

Sick interview as always boys. As a Flyers die-hard, this was one was special. Clarke made some great points and honest assessment of the Lindros-saga. He's right, both sides handled it poorly. I remember. To his point about hiding symptoms, I don't think guys under 25-30 remember too well, how big of an issue this was back in the 90s, early-2000s. Take Keith Primeau in the height of that Lindros-saga in the 2000 Playoffs. Gets ROCKED open-ice at center by Bobby The Boogyman, KO'ed, spends the night in the hospital, and plays game 1 against New Jersey in the Conference Finals, lol. There are articles still up today on ESPN and the likes where Keith openly admits to being concussed, but lying so he could play. I've said it before, Eric was a pioneer for the game regarding salaries and concussion awareness, to which he doesn't get enough credit. The players today owe A LOT to him.

Primeau actually played the very next game in Pittsburgh....it was the 5 overtime game that he scored the winner.

Great interview. Great player. Love him or hate him, nearly every team in the would have loved to have a player like him on the TEAM. Because simply put he was all about doing whatever it took to help the team. There is a great shortage of players (in all sports), that have that mentality these days.

I'm not saying that failing with one team should prevent you from working in the NHL again but if a person's working style was so destructive, you'd hope that that person would admit to their mistakes years later (e.g. Hextall and Keenan.)

2 things can be true . #16 Bobby Clarke is a philly legend & hockey god. Mr. Clarke president & gm was a nightmare that still haunts the Flyers

how awesome was that interview .? God Clarke was a great player . BTW - what happened with the Russians - they had beat pretty much every team they played- except montreal - they played the Canadiens - at the peak of the bowman era - on new years eve '75 . it was a 3-3 tie probably the best played game i have ever seen . But then they went to play the broad street bulllies - and they were in the prime of their era - so the game started getting REALLY rough - and they were playing the Red Army team - you could tell by the body language they were really getting intimidated and disoriented - then they got a delay of game penalty . They really didn't like that - so while the coach was arguing about the delay of game - they motioned the players in - and they all left the bench and went back to their dressing room - it was a case of you just called me for delay of game- so now i am going to delay this game !!! -- they were probably in the room for 8-10 minutes and then supposedly Eagelson went into their room and told them if they didnt come out and play they were not going to get paid - so they came back out - but the flyers had really intimidated them - and that was it - great memories Freddy the fog
