This interview confirms my personal experience with this gracious man. He refused to really slam Steinbrenner and Russ Nixon, the manager he fired in 1990. When I visited the bowels of Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium in 1992 as an 18-year-old kid, sitting in the tunnel outside the clubhouse, at the vague invitation of a friend of a friend, Bench Coach Jim Beauchamp, Mr. Cox was walking toward the door and saw me and my family across the large tunnel among the players' cars. He could have ignored us, or even quietly called security to shoo us away because technically we were lost and shouldn't have been there. However, he crossed the tunnel and greeted us like we were supposed to be there. He was kind and generously signed our program and even sent out Mr. Beauchamp and a couple of players we wouldn't have met otherwise.

I'll always love Bobby Cox. In 1985 he managed the Blue Jays to their all time best regular season record of 99 - 62 and won the AL East for the first time in team history.
