Ok, chris, fair enough. Then here it is. Rose was the most overrated player of all time. ALL Rose accomplished was get a bunch of singles and only because he played forever. He is the all time leader in at bats by a large margin. In other words, he should lead every offensive category. In all of them he is down the list. Some WAY down. Look it up.
@joez203
@joez203 5 жыл бұрын
@chris klein Rose was an above average player. Probably not a great one and certainly not one of the greatest of all time. An AVERAGE year for Rose was .303/6HR/50 RBI. Not much of a glove or arm. ZERO speed and power. Again, Rose was the all time leader in at bats by far. The only all time category he leads in is most hits. Oh and one more: Rose made the most outs in baseball history. he leads that category by a mile and a half.

@Craig O Batting avg. there is quite a gap, but both had great longevity, hits and runs statistics both players were very close, and the two carried a similar passion to win. Screwed over how? Caught red-handed betting on the game he was managing. Of course - now that gambling is sweeping the nation - NFL, NHL, calling it legit and cashing in-casinos popping up everywhere - it should now be considered business as usual. Would respect the guy more- if he spoke out about the evils of gambling and how it contributes to the decay of individuals as well as civilization as a whole.

Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, ALex Rodriquez, Roger Clemens, Miguel Tejada, and Rafael Palmeiro are just a few high profile players caught cheating - WHILE PLAYING - and yet their records and paycheck have not suffered! Doctored baseballs, the designated hitter, and so many other changes have rendered baseball but a shadow of what it was up through the '60s. And like ALL pro sports, the game is more about off-site betting than a sport.

Great ball player, had some character issues, takes ownership of them, doesn't blame anyone else. In the character issues he is just another one of us. In the taking responsibility and ownership without blaming others... He stands head and shoulders above most people in Washington D.C. As a ball player... Better than most.

@@cpmenninga your point is well taken. Like so many sports figures , looking back on Roses life there were always the character issues and they were not limited to gambling. It may be that in the later years of his life he has learned from his past and become a better person. Better late than never. I always liked him as a player. Hope he finishes life well. That's the one game that matters above all else.

@@genebull3837 There is no evidence he bet against the Reds. It is widely reported that he never did. Look it up. I remember when it happened and they reported he only bet the Reds to win.

@@Toutvids He didn't bet every single Reds game, so that in itself is like a bet against the team on those nights, and quite possibly he overused players the game before to try to win because he had a bet on it, so he knew the next game was compromised. Or maybe he didn't want to bet on a particular game because he knew the game after was more favorable if he just sat certain players or pitchers and rested them for the game after when he did bet. The whole betting thing stinks. He owed bookies so much money so who knows how this would have turned out had he not gotten caught.

It is sad that so many baseball players will not be in the hall of fame. I think shoeless Joe Jackson was robbed of his. His stats in world series was the Best yet they said he throw the series. Pete should also be there. Maybe after he is gone.

Sparky Anderson's 1970s Reds were a great team, joe Morgan, Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, my all time favorite reds teams, I think Pete got screwed over in baseball, especially when others did dope and never got banned like him, he'll Darryl Srawberry did cocaine got to play, they just made an example out of Rose.
