One thing about Bobby Darin is that he could sing anything and did.... This is so beautiful and so moving, best ever version... Bobby was the greatest singer of them all in my book, I loved him as a child of four in the mid 1950's, have done ever since...... He always sung from the very depths of his own heart and soul giving 1,000 percent and every bit of himself and then some.... Bobby was not afraid to write a song about something that meant a great deal to him and to sing it so movingly as well..... I am not sure if people know this about Bobby, but he marched for equal when he felt it's cause was important to everyone.... Someone mentioned about Bobby Darin not having a grave.... The answer is that he donated his body to science, so shortly after his passing his body was moved as to his request which Bobby made long before his passing.... The lyrics and music of "Simple Song of Freedom" is just as powerful today as when it was first recorded, way to go Bobby.... I still deeply miss, remember and love the greatest singer / entertainer of them all and of all time, Mr. Bobby Darin.... No one does it better that the great man himself, Mr. Magic as we called him here at home...... THANK YOU BOBBY FOR LEAVING AN EXTREMELY DEEP AND MEANINGFUL IMPRESSION ON OUR LIVES FOR THE BETTER YOU ARE TRULY THE MASTER WHEN IT COMES TO MUSIC AND YOU LEFT THEM ALL IN YOUR WAKE, BLESS YOU BIG GUY.... REST IN ETERNAL PEACE BOBBY DARIN.... YOU ARE LOVED TO THE MOON, THE STARS AND FAR BEYOND.

At the time he sang this, he was a slick Vegas performer, whose audience supported the war. Which was not only unjustified, but involved the draft. So it wasn't simply a topic for political discussion. It was life and death or damage for many, many guys out there. So to then hear a song of support of such passion from a star like Bobby, who was saying that he was supporting us instead of the establishment that he had been performing for, said a lot, and meant a lot. And earned him a lot of gratitude for crossing over to the side affirming life. And he put on a hell of a show, too.
@DrSamba1
@DrSamba1 10 жыл бұрын
There is one good thing about the draft: It's all too easy to be a hawk and slap a yellow ribbon on your SUV or minivan that says "I support the troops". It's not so easy if it's your kid that is going to get called to fight and die in a pointless war.
@steveknows62

Hey folks, When I see someone berate Bobby Darin for this song or any of his other work, it make me shake my head in wonder. Unlike most of the folks you see today doing "concerts" in their cleanest dirty T-Shirt and torn jeans, Darin was a real class act. Other than the short time he performed in his "Bob Darin" persona, he was always dressed most neatly, and usually in a tuxedo. Even when he performed that short time as "Bob Darin," he still wore clean shirts and pants that were pressed and made a good appearance. While I was immediately attracted to Darin's first songs like "Early In The Morning" and "Splish Splash," it was not long before Darin was delighting us all with smooth love songs like "Dream Lover" and "Beyond The Sea." Darin was not just a favorite with the kids at that time; he was also a favorite of many in the older generations. I know my mother and father certainly enjoyed playing his albums. Bobby Darin never ragged on anyone, he was a class act, and he certainly did not die young because of heroin overdose. Of course I did not know him personally, but he certainly appeared to all as a kind, warm hearted, and talented guy. I don't understand those who seem to delight in kicking dirt on him. Best wishes, Dave Wile

Listen to these words as Bobby sings them….. They are just as powerful today as when he origionally recorded it….. These words always touch a cord and brings you up short to think of what is happening out in this world of ours today…. REMEMBER, "WE THE PEOPLE DON'T WANT A WAR"…… A very relevant song today, after all only those who make the war weapons become rich and life does not come into the equation at all, to those people only ' MONEY COUNTS ' human life is expendable…. Such a true and sad fact….. The sooner we as a people stand up and be counted the better, make your feelings known to those in power, don't be lead blindly like sheep to their death….. Bobby Darin is the greatest performer ever who wrote, sang and spoke from his heart about what really mattered to him, people as a equals in everything in life….. Bobby's message will live on as the greatest song to imposer people, to stand and be counted in this life…… I will always remember and love Bobby Darin for the way he knew how to touch a people and bring them together as one….. Bobby as this rich warm emotional mature vocals that stands out above all others…. RIP BOBBY D.

Thank you all for your service! Bobby Darin and his music will never die, at least in my family. As well as many artists because my great-grandpa (1925-2007 - Also a WWII vet) showed me songs from artists he adored and taught me to play the acoustic guitar when I was 5, my grandpa (1947-2014) who introduced me to rock and roll and taught me to play the drums as well as the electric guitar, but my grandma (1948-present) was the one who would (and still does) sing, play, and dance and taught me not only the piano but also taught me to sing and dance to music like Bobby Darin (My favorite, Mack The Knife). I grew up on all types of music and it has brought me great joy to preform such beautiful songs from artists and genres. My point being, and as I said before, Bobby Darin's legacy will live on forever. Not only his music but how he did not allow his condition to let him live a life of misery but of celebration of ones own life. I'm 23, I live with a weakened heart from birth, as well as Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis diagnosed when I was 20. I may not die young but it has been quite the journey and will not get better as time passes but I will not allow my condition to stop me from living the life I deserve and the life I've worked hard to have. I will teach my children, grandchildren, and hopefully my great grandchildren the true art of music aside from the trash they perform today and in the future. This may have been longer than I intended but if you have read my comment, I thank you. Bobby Darin will never die.

Send this song to all of your congress people. I listened to Bobby Darin when I was much younger. He was the best. If he had died at the time his doctors thought he would, we would have missed out on so much. The world was a better place.

I'd like to see some of those simple songs re-recorded. I realize I'm stuck in the 50s and 60s, but meaningful songs that allow the lyrics to be heard and a melody to be enjoyed seem to be more and more a thing of the past. Thank you Bobby.

I asked my Mom what she thought of Dean Martin a few years ago, I heard she saw him and was excited to get the scoop since I was turned on to the Rat Pack during that whole swinger fad in the 90's. All she could talk about was how great Bobby Darin was.

A transplant would’ve been unlikely, he died in the process of getting a bypass operation so if that had been successful I think the combination of good medications and yearly follow ups would’ve prolonged his life a good 20 years

He always knew that his life would be short so he packed all of his talent and energy into it, luckily for those of use who enjoyed him then and still do. It was interesting to see his trajectory and transformation from fervently ambitions Rat-Pack-type of showman to quiet, introverted, deeply thoughtful peacenik. It's such a lovely arc and must have been so satisfying for him, the realization that he'd found what was truly important about life: brotherly love, peace, equity, etc.

He tried to sing different songs before his death and not everyone could accept this. No matter what Bobby Daring sang it was great - died way to young at 37. But he sure gave to the audience even when he had to go off stage and take in oxygen due to his bad heart.

I am moved, inspired, and energized now after researching for hours of his life. I have included my 8 year old daughter with his story, music, beliefs and we are now better because of him. His spirit lives decades after his death. How strange, I was 8 when he died and knew nothing of him, but now I teach my daughter of 8 his story and she can remember his greatness, and possibly benefit from them. Memories are like moon beams, memories never die, and Bobby lives on!!! I will teach others of him

I’d Just like to say, this is the Most Underated Entertainer in History. I recently discovered his significance to music after really enjoying his song, “More”. I finally decided to wiki him and was shocked at what he accomplished in his short life. I would say Bobby was a Man who had Beaten his Ego and just Loved Music and Entertaining. I put the guy right up at the Top with the Greats, Elvis, Michael, Freddie Mercury and some of the others. I merely mentioned those 3 based on their Popularity. Darrin deserves the same but just seemed to be Under Appreciated probably because of the type of Music. His Voice and Showmanship are Iconic however. Incredible Performer.

Oh Bobby, Bobby..I had not heard you sing this before,,but I had heard the comments...You were tremendous..you made any song your own. This soulful rendition of a traditional song just blew me away!! Why should I be surprised?? Bobby correctly interpreted the message; the beat, when to accent a particular phrase. Man, could Bobby Darin sing..with his ëar"" for music, with his soul..with his poor damaged heart. I just Loved it. And it's here for the world, if they knew about it, to enjoy. For Posterity. A fabulous Post my friend. VALE Bobby Darin

I just watched Beyond the Sea - I just love this movie. Every time I see that it is on - I stop on it. I just love this song. Kevin Spacey did a wonderful job... I remember watching that movie the first time and ended up searching You Tube for more Bobby. And it is sort of funny, I did it again today. I was 20 when he left us, I remember how sad I was. I was always a fan! I think Bobby did what he set out to to: "My goal is to be remembered as a human being and as a great performer."

Growing up on a collage campus during this time period was an early lesson in activism. I remember huge crowds of student's marching or "sitting in" singing this song and many like it. It truly was a national anthem. Thanks for posting it.
