We all miss him, but he knew he would not be here long, that is why he gave it all up with every single song and performance, he had soul, he lived fully every moment. Sandra Dee loved him until her death. His son keeps his legacy alive. ❤❤❤

I had heard a few songs but really discovered the genius that is Bobby Darin 4 nights back and since then, I can't get enough. I'm a massive Elvis fan and was remembering him Aug 16th. On a phone call my sis mentioned a friend at work liking Bobby, I recalled Elvis and Bobby meeting so was searching for the pictures and came across If I were a Carpenter. I was reduced to tears. I played it over and over again thinking it was the best recording of a song I had ever heard. Since then I'm re-working all my rules, he's tearing up everything I know. I'm so glad to have met Bobby Darin albeit in precious clips like this. I haven't been able to stop smiling at the sheer joy from watching and hearing this force of talent. He is now simply a part of each day. He provides a masterclass with each genre he sings, swing, smooth, country, rock n roll, blues, soul, folk, he plays instruments and then he dances and boy can he dance, then there's comedy and impressions and somehow fitted in acting and by all accounts, a truly decent human being too. And if I can add, is very sexy throughout. Midnight Special is probably the single best all round performance I've seen. Midnight has become Bobby time. I'm not sleeping until I've heard the songs, watched the performances, smiled with him because he has a look as if he's singing just to you. I was 3 when he died.

Frank Sinatra and Elvis were different performers completely although Bobby Darin seemed to embody both. Elvis saw Bobby Darin perform and supposedly said that he (Elvis) would not want to follow him. Once Upon A Time...there was a magnificent, multi talented artiste who had Talent.. and Timing, perfect pitch, exquisite change of key, a virtuoso on any musical instrument you could name...supernatural on Vibes..Rhythm..from the top of his head to his better than James Brown dancing feet!!! I am 68 years of age, and have loved Mr D since the late 50's when Australia somehow, aired shows with Bobby performing..with his superb Two Step at the end of Look Out Old Mackey Is Back!! He dropped that routine from his performance...I don't know why...Others have praised him here..far better than I can express!! I have what is purported to be his final show, on DVD...and,after playing Splish Splash, he gets up..thanks the audience...and leaves the stage, for the final time. If you look closely at the expression in his eyes, you can see him..not soaking the pleasure up at their marvelous response..but the knowing look that he will never experience this moment, again. Bloody hell I miss you Bobby!! I know exactly where I was when I heard the news on the radio....I cried, Bobby D...I cry still. Catch him on an LP singing with Johnny Mercer, if you can..Special!! You are my Once Upon a Time, Bobby Darin..oh so long ago. Thanks, Mr Hammer..I keep watching your vids.

Marilyn Stevenson, well said! I'm about the same age as you now, and I have loved Bobby forever! I did not know until after he passed, that he had an incredibly high IQ and was part of Mensa organization for "High IQ intellectuals" and that he could play any instrument and as Sammy Davis Jr. said once that "Bobby Darin has a black man's soul and rhythm in "a white man's body"..so true he had this natural rhythm anyone could see. Multi dimensionally talented, in singing, writing songs, playing many instruments, dancing and his acting was also incredible. Watch the movie "Pressure point" with Darin and Sidney Poiter. Bobby plays a very sick twisted "Nazi sympathizer and sociopath" in prison, where Sidney is the psychiatrist and tries to help him and figure out how he came to be such a messed up man. They go back over his childhood and it was horrible, and that is where Darin does his incredible acting chops!

SONG, DANCE, ACTING........there was no one like Bobby. Sandra Dee NEVER re -married......he was THEE man......taken from us far too early and remembered by few. Only those who know his talents are die-hard fans. He couldn't read music, but arranged and conducted most of his music. He wrote 136 SONGS!!!!!! His best is a debate....A SIMPLE SONG OF FREEDOM, or LONG LINE RIDER......those were his, and his alone. He sang, he danced, he wrote, he arranged, he acted(pretty well) His talent was FAR FAR, FAR under-appreciated for most of his time - and continues to this day. Pure talent, the voice so clear and crisp- the rhythm and blues oozes out of him with each move and lyric he sings. One of the all time best!

Pure talent right there! Saw Bobby at The Regal, Edmonton, c1959. He was amazing then and on this song he is really giving it his all. Sadly not long before he died, December 20 1973. :-(

Salut Mr bobby Darin

Thank you! I never got " there" but I have made a sweet life since 85' singing for a living I am very proud to say now at 54 (in May)..I LOVED THEM ALL! My Mother played Sinatra while I was in her belly ( she told me) and all my life! I am a huge Elvis fan( I saw them both LIVE in my lifetime!! EP in 74' at Sahara Tahoe and FS at Bally's Reno in 88', I was right in front ($250 ticket was) and was the 1st person he came to when the 90 min show was over and shook my hand a good 5 sec. from the stage! I will never forget that moment! Sinatra truly had the BLUEST eyes you ever saw!)..* along with of course Bobby Darin, Jackie Wilson, Tom Jones, Sam Cooke, Al Green.......Hall & Oates, Simply Red' ( Mick Hucknell) I love them ALL and many more from my era to the STAX label...Please look me up and hear/see my " Career"....*..NICKYDEPAOLA.COM...* God bless'

Saw him in Vegas in 1972. I was 15. He was my dad's favorite. Amazing show. Played 4 instruments, danced and sang. He was sick but never knew it. Died the next year at 37 years old.
