World Championship match between Fischer and Karpov? Did history change in the past 50 years? I remember Fischer crushing Spassky after blundering one game and forfeiting another. I remember Fischer winning regardless of the Campomanes (FIDE leader from the Philippines) CCCP (Communist Party) steering preferences towards Spassky. I remember that, despite Fischer holding the title and now deserving similar conditions as the ones he was forced to submit to as challenger, in his title defense. Nay, Campomanes ruled and devised even more uncharitable conditions for Fischer, including to play abroad, again. Fischer was to be challenged by Karpov, the poster boi for good Moscovite Russians in good standing with the communist party. As opposed to chain-smoking, vodka swilling, Spassky. Fischer was forfeited and his title handed to Karpov as Fischer declined the conditions set forth by the opposition coalition. Fischer never played a world championship title match with Karpov. Is there some joke here? We know Fischer and Spassky played a rematch 20years after the first title match in '72. In '92 Fischer beat Spassky again, winning 2/3 of the $5 million prize fund, Spassky getting 1/3 for losing another championship to Fischer. Fischer didn't play competitively for most of the interim. I, however, played Bobby a blitz game, where he canooed my head after about 25 moves. 83, Memorial Day classic, Fischer, escorted by OC Register Chess Columnist Paul Koploy. Maybe half an hour. I believe he crushed Shirazi as well.

@@Olive-gd3wnKarpov was a fake GM by clustered half points in the communist coalition. After 1972 a change was made from Spassky to The Karpov Generation by that coalition. In order for Fischer to play Karpov it had to be under those coalition condition's and rules, not FIDE alone. Fischer refused. Even in FIDE rules if you refuse a challenge to your champion title then you lose your title to that challenger. Russia knew. Fischer had his title stripped by politics. 3/4 of the Russian Federation of GM's and IM's were "half-pointer's." By default half points were given in a draw game. They played each other to draw games accumulating their standings in FIDE. FIDE has long since changed that rule on the draw game. A half point isn't much but if you play 200 games in a year within your own coalition, that is another 100 points otherwise not had and certainly not a full game point when you lose. Lose one game in that coalition and draw the next two you break even. Draw the next two again and you gain a point. Fischer stood alone representative not of a coalition, not of New York Chess Club and no flag or government. Fischer played only under FIDE Rules not to any individual sanctions, coalitions or bodies. It was simple. All Karpov had to do sit down at the board under FIDE Rules alone. Russian Coalition would not allow it. Karpov was actually over 200 points (by real FIDE) less of a player than Fischer. That entire coalition by CCCP Rules put Karpov into his ranking (by .5's) to play against International Grand Master's from around the world. Fischer saw it and refused. For Fischer it was better to give it up and lose his earned title than to have played someone that was not even supposed to have been on the same stage with him. In America and most all other countries Chess is not politics with a government flag. In Russia and especially during Breznev, Chess was crown. Fischer's argument made that change. There will not be another Robert J. Fischer. I can point to a hundred Karpov's. RJF.

That's an easy bet seeing as you'll never have to pay up. Fisher would probably have lost a match against Karpov and he certainly would have lost to Kasparov and so many of the others who followed. Fisher could play at such a high level because he was playing so few games and he was so excellently prepared for the small number of games he played. This grossly exaggerated his performance. If he was playing as consistently and as many games as these more recent champions played, or even as many games per year as his contemporaries were playing, he would not have been able to maintain that high level. That is not to say that he wasn't a great champion and didn't come up with many great ideas and play many great games. It's just to say that his place in chess history is somewhat exaggerated.

Fischer won the 1972 World Championship match in Reykjavik, beating Boris Spassky. The world chess champion Robert Fischer and the winner of the next candidates tournament Anatoly Karpov were supposed to play in the Philippines from April 1 to June 10, 1975, but the match was disrupted: Fischer first put forward many conditions, and after some of them were not accepted by FIDE, refused to play. The title of world champion was unanimously awarded to Anatoly Karpov by the decision of FIDE without a game on April 3, 1975. Fischer was stripped of the title of world champion, and Anatoly Karpov became the new one, who won the candidates matches in 1974.

Mi pareva strano che Karpov si facesse mangiare la torre in quella maniera ed a certi livelli!❤
