Benko did give his place up to Bobby to play in the interzonal in 70. Otherwise Bobby would not have qualified for the candidates. Presumably the USCF 'thanked' him profusely.

Bobby once 'spent' an hour with a 'fille de joie' in Buenos Aires. Why did it last so long. 'Because I was thinking of chess openings' explained Bobby!!

You would if you solve more chess puzzles everyday and play chess for few hours at least, I suggest playing blitz chess 3 or 5 min blitz will force you to see tactics when there is time pressure. Slow or rapid chess is also great for improving ofcourse.

These days im reading a chess book about psychology and how to use it to your advantage. Benko is one of the writers on this book and he talks a lot about Fischer. Very fascinating game indeed

Fun fact: Bobby and Pál Benkő were friends. Once they bet with each other if Pál can give Bobby a chess puzzle he cannot solve. And to big surprise Bobby couldn't solve it!! 😊😮
