Dan Hardy suggested the other day that if he hadn't been knocked out by Adriano Martins way back when, Makhachev wouldn't have developed into the thoughtful, methodical striker and fighter he is today. Makhachev's SApM (Significant Strikes Absorbed per Minute) is 0.79. That's less than four strikes per round. His strike accuracy is 58%, and his strike defense is 70%. Strike defense is the % of opponent strikes that did not land. For comparison, Green's SApM is 3.65 (18 strikes per round), his strike accuracy is at 51%, and his strike defense is at 62%. Notice I'm only mentioning striking stats (they're from UFCStats), you all can intuit the difference in the grappling. The numbers suggest that Islam gets hit considerably less, defends better, and connects more. And he has been knocked out, an experience he's been careful to avoid. We all know that Islam is the superior wrestler and grappler, what the numbers say is that he is also the superior striker.
