Bobby Heenan discusses why Jesse Ventura really hated Hulk Hogan, dating back from AWA all the way to WWF. Stream New Shoot Interviews 📺 TitleMatchNetwo...
The late-great Bobby "The Brain" Heenan talks about his time around both Jesse Ventura and Hulk Hogan both in American Wrestling Alliance & World Wrestling Federation.
Bobby mentions how Jesse idolized Superstar Billy Graham and adopted a simliar gimmick. When Hogan came into AWA it took away from Ventura's shine since the character was also a portrayal of Superstar.
This interview was originally produced by RF Video Inc in 2002. Licensed for distribution on Title Match Network.

According to Jesse Ventura, he hated Hogan because he wanted to form a wrestler's union, but Hogan ratted him out to Vince McMahon. I don't know if it's true or not.

Hogan and Ventura were apparently friends until Jesse learned that Hulk had ratted him out to McMahon about his plans to unionise the wrestlers. Hulk Hogan was allegedly earning more than all the other wrestlers put together and allegedly foresaw his slice of the WWF pie becoming smaller if his colleagues demanded a larger percentage.
@darrenlee9237
@darrenlee9237 Ай бұрын
Only a true narcissist would be incapable of understanding as to why Jesse Ventura might have felt betrayed by Hulk Hogan, an individual whom he had previously considered a friend but who metaphorically speaking stabbed him in the back at a crucial juncture in the wrestling business. The WWF was massive back in those days. There was a good living to be made for everyone if the profits were to be shared-out more fairly. The highest earners and the biggest draw to the sport could still have enjoyed a lavish lifestyle if they and the owners of the business were prepared to allow some of those profits to trickle down to those wrestlers who earned a lot less. Is that really such a difficult concept to grasp? Perhaps it is. For I guess that these are the times of greed and rampant self-interest in which we now live. I've seen Jesse Ventura give a number of speeches, interviews and presentations which are available online. I don't know how anyone could hear such a talented individual speak only to suggest that such a man is "very stupid". But then again I don't have a self-contained flat up my own a*se.

I think Bobby’s reasoning as to why Jesse disliked Hulk would be different today had he heard Jesse’s reasoning. Hulk was the one who snitched to Vince that it was Jesse who wanted a Union for the wrestler’s. Up until that point, Jesse never had an issue with Hulk.

Bobby addressed the union in the long form of this video and said the same thing as a few others did that the union talk was a joke and the wrestlers would have not been able to work together. Bobby is wrong about Hogan being concerned about Jesse Ventura. Remember, when Jesse Ventura was Governor of Minnesota, Hogan actually had Vince McMahon call Jesse in order to ask if Jesse was going to have Hogan arrested when Hogan visited Minnesota to promote a book. Hogan did this because Hogan believed Jesse was still angry with him due to the fact that Hogan stopped Jesse's plan to form a Union in the wrestling industry, which Hogan stopped by ratting everybody out and telling Vince McMahon. Jesse said, "Vince, tell Hogan I have far bigger concerns in life than Hulk Hogan." There is no doubt Bobby Heenan has things backwards on that particular subject - at least from that point in time.

It's funny how you see people differently when you get older. As a kid watching wrestling, depending on your personal values, you cheer the good guys and hate the bad guys. The managers copped it worse because of the way they'd interfere in the matches, and you just want to see a fair match. Then you get older, understand wrestling is business, and now that it is mostly a work (kayfabe was strong when I was younger), and you begin to see the bad guys for what they are; an essential component to any match, because if there were not bad guys, who would you cheer for? The same can be said of any movie or TV show. I used to hate Major Burns and Major Winchester in MASH, because I was too young to understand their role and appreciate their characters' motivations. Once you can see past the surface, things become a lot clearer, and the lines between good and bad become very blurry, at least on TV.

It's interesting to watch interviews from different people about this world and see the differing opinions. Heenan loved Hogan but many others don't. Different people say different things about Ventura too. Personally I have to say that Hogan put on a far better show in the ring. That guy could work the crowd with the best. Ventura was a much better commentator than a ring presence. He was great at that. Much better than Hogan would have been. One thing that doesn't vary though is what people say about Bobby Heenan. Everyone says good things about him.

Jesse has always come off as a fairly honest guy, and the reason I say "fairly," is because we all lie to some extent when something matters to us. That being said, Vince also tried to prevent Jesse from acting in films with Schwarzenegger, like "Predator." Vince was angry because he wanted a piece of that "Predator" pie. Still, I believe Bobby's an honest guy, and knew more about the business of pro wrestling than most ever will.
