Today’s Famous Grave visit is that of 1966 World Cup Winner and captain Bobby Moore.
Robert Frederick Chelsea Moore OBE (12 April 1941 - 24 February 1993) was an English professional footballer. He most notably played for West Ham United, captaining the club for more than ten years, and was the captain of the England national team that won the 1966 FIFA World Cup.
He is widely regarded as one of the greatest defenders in the history of football, and was cited by Pelé as the greatest defender that he had ever played against.

As a lifelong West Ham United fan, Bobby Moore remains my all time sporting hero. Bobby and I have some things in common. Although some years apart we were both born in Upney hospital. Like Bobby I played a match for my school at Flanders Field East Ham. Bobby met his future wife Tina at the Ilford Palais. I met my future wife there too. My parents and my parents- in- law are all buried at this City of London cemetery. I didn't of course have Bobby's talent but I'm happy to have these connections.

Oh my God. So beautiful. Bobby shoved me over the Rd as a baby with my mum. Stopped the traffic outside Upton park. I was born September 1966. My mum remembers being so pregnant and a house load of people plus our local priest. Miss him xx

Great video Paul, as a life long supporter of West Ham I'm now 71 and remember going into Bobby's shop opposite the ground and being served by Bobby or Tina then going to watch the match afterwards, I would get to the shop at about 12 ish to make sure I would see the GREAT man himself. Thanks for doing this video and all the others that I have watched great stuff Thanks 👍

Paul, Having been a West Ham supporter for over 58 years, thank you so much for this episode. Bobby was one of West Ham’s best sons! The tragedy is that he was too embarrassed to go to the doctors with his initial symptoms! Had he done so he might have been saved. To all out there, NEVER be embarrassed to go to your Doctor! Thanks Paul. Bob

Hi Paul, wow I know this is a big one for you and all England football fans the late Bobby Moore,I remember when he passed away I was in New Zealand when the British and Irish lions Rugby team was tour their it was huge news at the time not just in Australia and New Zealand,I can only Imagine how England and West Ham supporters reacted and how the rest of England was at the time, even my Scottish Family who are Celtic and Scotland fans felt his passing. But been the loss of the 1966 World cup captain was a huge deal,if I had to make the Australian Compassion it was like the Passing of The Legendary Cricket captain Sir Donald Bradman in 2001,I know that was a big deal not just in Australia but England and India his passing was deeply felt, back to Bobby Moore I remember him been Manager of Southend. Thanks for this one Paul again I know how much this one means to England yourself and football fans especially England and West Ham United.

I had completely forgotten he was in Escape to Victory with Michael Caine and Sylvester Stallone, Pele and loads of other footballers until you showed that photo. I also never knew he had a middle name of Chelsea! He really left his mark on the game and I remember his death seemed to come out of nowhere for the public as, like you said, he was working as a commentator until a few days before he died (was that the game where Sam Marino scored first?). I was also interested to hear you say he replaced Malcolm Allison, another legendary name, in his first game. I remember Mal as a larger than life manager when I was a kid. RIP Sir Bobby.
