@ Dan Roux: I bought Bobby Orr's autobiography, expecting to finally learn a little about the man and his accomplishments, but there's very little in the book about him. It's all about the other people who helped him along the way and things like that. Orr may be the first person ever to write an autobiography without discussing himself! Orr is the personification of modesty about his amazing hockey achievements, and about as classy a human being as you'll ever run into anywhere. Most people make an enemy or rival or two along the way - very few are universally-respected in the way that Orr seems to be. No one anywhere seems to have a bad word about the man.

Robert Gordon Orr! Lets not forget his 1971 Plus/Minus of + 124!! Went to his hockey camp in the summer of 72. I remember him driving up in a NEW 1972 Yellow Convertible Corvette! Too bad Eagleson ripped him off and never told him the Bruins offered him a 10% stake in the team.

Great highlights, thank you. One time when I was a kid I was playing in a Hockey Tournament just North of Boston... I heard some people mention that Bobby Orr was in the stands just watching the kids play for fun. After the game, don't ask me why, but I was the only kid that went up and sat on the bleachers with him. All the other kids just left? Looking back this sounds insane to me that they didn't want to meet him. Anyways, he took out full glossy autographed 8 X 10 pictures. He gave one for me and then gave me two others to take my brother and my Nana. As good of a Hockey player as he was-- he's even a better person. And that's saying something because he was one of the best to ever lace up a pair of skates.

I had the pleasure to watch that man play many times in person including a playoff game against the rangers in 1970 what a great experience that was I was very fortunate.

Great video! Orr was the absolute best, and his personality humility only served to accentuate his greatness. Just a funny observation about Canadians (with greatest respect): I love how all of you call The Boston Garden, Boston Gardens! Makes me laugh every time!

It’s strange but my favourite Bruins team of all time was the 73/74 season with Gilles Gilbert in net. Losing in the finals to Philadelphia was so heartbreaking for me. I remember this like it was recently. It was considered one of the biggest upsets in Stanley cup finals. Orr changed the game of hockey so this is why he’s considered by many to be the greatest of all time.

As a die hard Habs fan in the 70s, Guy Lafleur's electrifying play had me on the edge of my seat every time he rushed down his wing. But Orr had something Lafleur didn't have: elegance. He was poetry in motion. And he dominated the game every time he stepped on the ice. What Lafleur and Orr had in common was class, hard work ethic and an undeniable dedication to the fans and their team. Both of them honest, humble superstars.
@laudace1764
@laudace1764 2 жыл бұрын
As a Bruins fan, if the game was close against the Habs, your heart was in your throat when Lafleur had the puck. A fantastic player, and underrated, in my opinion, when discussing the all-time greats. It took him a couple years in the league before he really shined. As for Orr, by far the greatest player to ever play. Others like Howe or Gretzky may have had better careers, but take them all in their prime, and Orr would dominate any game he would play against them. You are right about his elegance--his skating was so far above anyone else's, it was on another level. He had so many different speeds, and could accelerate better than anyone who ever played the game. He had unparalleled balance on his skates, incredible moves, and was a tremendous shooter of the puck (half-slap was as quick, accurate and as hard as anyone, had a very hard full slap shot when he used it, great wrist shot, and one of the best backhands I've ever seen). He was a consummate passer of the puck, had amazing awareness of the position of his teammates and opponents on the ice, and was a great competitor. I'll never forget him winding up behind his own net and rushing down the ice--you thought he would score every time he did it. Watching him rag the puck killing penalties was something I have never seen anyone else come close to equalling. And, seeing him behind his own net and go through his own crease and back behind the net again when someone chased him is something that again that I have never seen another player do. Incredible.

As a die hard bruins fan in the 60s & 70s your Canadian goalie ken dryden bothered me the most. Most of the time it seemed like you guys had boarded the goal shut. I always dreaded those playoff games against your Canadians. Much respect to our northern neighbors.

A group of hockey experts were asked how many point Orr would have per season if he played in today's NHL. The consensus was that he would score about 50 points per season. When asked about this, the group stated "well he is 75 years old after all".....

It was like he had three speeds. He could go from one end to the other anytime he wanted too. He could kill a penalty by himself and rush up the ice and score by himself- short handed.

Wasn't he something? The players today are stronger and just as fast. Todays players are experts on nutrition and conditioning almost all year long. Super skilled. But fans, imagine Bobby today at 21 yrs of age with the knee surgeons today, the equipment, nutrition and conditioning coaches. Wow!

I watch much smaller slower men have great success in today's NHL. The equipment has changed. Rules have changed. Not much else. I met Patrick Kane at an All Star event. He is 5' 9 - 170 pounds. Won every NHL Award. I'm really sick of hearing how huge the players are today. Nonsense.

Not so sure Boston really offered him a stake in the team.pretty sure jacobs owned yhe team at that time and theres no way that guy would give away anything to anybody especially a hockey player who is absolutely finished.i thought the timing of that zupposed offer was very suspicious as it wasnt made public to even orr himself until eagleson got caught pilfering the pension fund

Who receives cheque's at their retirement ceremony? I know we were cheap miser's and u went to a team of cheap misers AND you'll soon find out that you're ' brother' agent is a scumbag so as a retirement we're gonna give some cheques. - you're gonna need em' Only in Boston would fans scream when a guy's giving a retirement speech.
