Bobby Petrino introduced as Arkansas offensive coordinator

Bobby Petrino was welcomed back to the University of Arkansas during a press conference in Fayetteville on Thursday. Head coach Sam Pittman spoke first before being followed by his new offensive coordinator. Here's what they had to say...

You need to watch his recent pressers after the games as the losses mounted this year. Pittman scowled and was obviously snappy with a short fuse towards the media members on three or four occasions. After a recent loss, Pittman accused the media & fan base of harming his recruiting with negativity. While saying nothing about his 4-8 record or blocking his Twitter account possibly harming his recruiting. Pittman has had a scowl on his face almost constantly since Petrino was hired. I think you are actually Cody Kennedy or related thereof. You take ole sweetie back to Georgia. The sooner the better. I am so tired of these such a good ole boy comments. He is an old ill tempered grumpy loser.

I think People who take ownership of their actions are entitled to another chance. Petrino is a smart man and I believe he will take advantage of the opportunity he has been given. Pittman may be the smartest of the bunch, only time will tell. GO HOGS! GO!!

He had multiple multiple opportunities to tell the truth during the many many months during the issues, lying to police, players, fans, boosters, coaches, administrators, etc multiple times. Basically ruined a woman and man's careers at Arkansas forcing them to leave the state and Arkansas setting up the move for both of them. Low blow Arkansas did to those two to bring this up again by rehiring a 62 year old in his last years as a coach versus so many up and coming 30 something offensive minds. Overall the University system dropped a few notches nationwide with this rehire. A few extra wins is not worth the trouble.

I can say this coach, it is very obvious you do care as a head coach, and you want Arkansas to win, and I can support you on that. I want to thank you for caring. Honestly, I'm glad for Bobby and I believe that he will do well at Arkansas, and beat Missouri and Drinkwitz next year. I believe that Bobby is a better person than he was 10-15 years ago, having made some mistakes and had some problems in his family life, but he still has talents that he can contribute to benefit Arkansas, its players, and the larger football community.

I was surprised that your post was just six hours old. I thought for sure it was an old post before the story of what happened came out. I guess you have not been playing attention. It's been confirmed by both Petrino's side and Sam Pittman's side what happened. Petrino's agent texted Sam Pittman and told him that Petrino would be interested in the job. Sam Pittman made the first move and called Petrino for an interview. After that, he had to be approved by Yurachek and some other heavy weights at the University, but Sam Pittman got the ball rolling and wanted Petrino here. I mean, think about it, why would a head coach not want the best offensive mind in college football as their OC? Do you think Sam Pittman does not want to win or something? He was also aware of how successful Petrino had been here, and how loved he is in the state of Arkansas. It was a no brainer.

Pittman still has the demeanor of somebody that just received a cancer diagnosis from his doctor. The football season being over should have improved his disposition to some degree. Petrino is by far the more normal Joe of the two. Never had a good vibe listening to Pittman. Pittman probably is still on edge about the possibility of losing Kennedy. I think a lot more went on behind the scenes arranging all of this than we will ever see publicly reported.

Petrino was ego-driven in the past and hard set on being the best coach in football. His ego took a hit with the Falcons and he came back to the college ranks seeing Arkansas as just a re-entry point, looking to eventually leave Ark for a school with more prestige. It's like leaving a great wife to see if you can find a prettier one, only to realize that the one you left was the one that you needed. I think he now realizes that Arkansas was his best opportunity to do everything he wanted as a coach, and the scandal here will make it near impossible for him to get those schools he originally wanted--those fanbases will never fight for him like the state of Arkansas will. Sure, some people here don't care for him, but the ones that do will fight for him harder than, say, Ohio State, USC, or Michigan ever will after his past mistakes. He knows that now.

When Petrino was at Louisville the first time, he did really well. Then when he came to Arkansas, we were on the cusp of being a championship team in the SEC. He did really well at Missouri State too. He had them winning the most games they had ever won, with a bunch of one and two star players. When he was the OC at Texas AM, he dramatically improved their offense the first and only year he was there. So, to try and suggest he is a bad coach is ridiculous. He did do well with Lamar Jackson for a little while, it did it end up falling apart though - and I don't know why, but it wasn't because of poor coaching.
