Bobby Vinton and Perry Como are the local heroes in my hometown, Canonsburg PA. Bobby's dad, Stan Vinton, was a bandleader. Our families were close friends.

Vinton had the final Billboard No. 1 hit ("There! I've Said It Again") in 1964 before The Beatles hit No. 1 with "I Want to Hold Your Hand" to usher in Beatlemania and the British Invasion. However, unlike most of his American contemporaries, whose careers cratered afterwards, Vinton continued to have hit after hit during the 1960s and 1970s--scoring 16 top-ten hits. Wikipedia 😊

He was huge in the 1960s - pre-Beatles. Had many hits that were always on the radio. He was a frequent guest on the many variety shows, teen shows, talk shows during the era and worked every major night club and casino from coast to coast. When I was growing up in the 60s and 70s everyone knew the name Bobby Vinton.

Bobby Vinton is one of the many teen idols from the 60's. He sang a lot of romantic songs. He had a lot of great hits such as "Mr. Lonely", "Roses Are Red (My Love)", "There! I've Said It Again", "Please Love Me Forever", "Blue On Blue", "I Love How You Love Me", "Ev'ry Day Of My Life", "Sealed With A Kiss", "My Melody Of Love" etc.

I think it might be exactly the Roy Orbison connection that gets this song into your feed. In David Lynch's 1986 directed cult classic flim "Blue Velvet", he uses a couple of vintage songs, one is "Blue Velvet" which becomes the titile, the other is Roy Orbison's "In Dreams", which is obsessively loved by the psychopath in the flim that subverts a teenage warm memory into a nightmare. The flim was quite instrumental in reigniting interest in Roy Orbison and contributed to the revival of his career before his death.

You've found the music of my adolescence. I think you could call this "easy listening". Try Venus in Bluejeans and Go Away Little Girl by Mark Wynter. There was a lot of pleasant, unchallenging music like this in those days. You haven't heard of it because being unoffensive is kind of a synonym for unremarkable.

Tony Bennett is probably best known for his version of San Francisco (little cable cars, etc). You would probably like it since your reactions to music of that period seem very favorable. As stated elsewhere Bobby Vinson was something of a teen idol with several very popular songs.
