Ok I know I’m gonna get some pushback but in my humble opinion the line up of Eric Clapton, Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radel and Jim Gordon were the best 4 piece band going.
@kevinjohnbetts3 жыл бұрын
Had they toured more extensively, finished that second album and not had so many drug issues then they could have been. As it is I think they're bettered by several line ups, not least a certain little band that consisted of Paul Kossoff, Andy Fraser, Simon Kirke and Paul Rodgers.
@wecandobetter98213 жыл бұрын
@@kevinjohnbetts Free was another great band from that era. One of my favorites also. I see your last name is Betts, just like the last name of my all time favorite band Allman Brothers. All of us who grew up during the 60-70s sure had some really good music to listen to Thanks

@@wecandobetter9821 I wish I could claim relation to Dickie but I've never been able to find a connection. I like the Allmans but not enough to follow them (I only have a compilation CD and the Fillmore album). They did spawn Gov't Mule who I nearly nominated as another great four piece, at least in their current incarnation.

As a fan who has followed the music and career of Bobby Whitlock for 50 years now, it is almost incredulous to say that he gets better all the time, but he does. There is a tear in his voice when singing the ballads and a closely and carefully though barely restrained roar when the rockers kick out one after the other. Performance and studio credits second to none demonstrate that he is not only a man of his time, but a man for all time when the notes from the organ begin to swell. Thanks for hanging tough Bobby, cause those of us who call themselves you fans have been hanging tough with you. God bless you and Coco.

Father Bob on the keys. What a great band, great song, both a guitarists dream and maybe nightmare, man you gotta be on to play this song, Coco's a force. Bobby was truly an integral part of that classic Layla album, what a lineup, a tight unit, if one fell all fell, they never fell, they sort of just went off I guess, must have been a great time of life for them in hindsite.

Despite my continual pounding of the pulpit for the Carl Radle/Jim Gordon rhythm section, there are some good bass riffs here. Props to the bassist. And the drummer too. Both trying.... but Jim Gordon's snare and funky popping, along with Carl Radle's smooth groves and incredibe, unique (though very subtle) phrasing, will never be equalled! Not on this song, anyhow.
