This song always takes me back to a lovely warm summer's day in the UK (1977 maybe). A really fine song in any case.

A ‘mere’ 47 years ago (!?!) this day, 16th July, 1977 - it was a saturday (just in- case you were wondering; I have the most unusual memory of anyone that I’ve met - to date) and I had sailed across the North Sea the previous evening and through the night from Newcastle in the far north of England to Esbjerg on the west coast of Denmark; sadly a sailing long since cancelled by the once popular ‘DFDS’ Seaways. I was 16, travelling alone - as was my won’t from early teenage days . It was a very different world then, I was a tall lad - and the understanding was betwixt my mother and I was … “ Travel helps you to grow up “ … my dad wasn’t in the least interested in any of our interest’s -?!? ‘ Oh, Lori’ was everywhere that summer: on the boat, hitch-hiking down into Northern Germany, on people’s car radio’s, walking around Flensburg as it ‘poured’ out of both cafes and record shops alike. I am a life-long Neil Diamond fan and had just seen him in concert for the first-time at The London Palladium on 25th June and a week later at an enourmous open-air concert at Woburn Abbey, one week later; both concerts were a 600 mile ‘there-and-back’ from my home in the far north of England. But it is this song with all that it contains in some mystical, magical way that IS my memory of THAT summer. It could not have been made any better - in any way . And I am ‘ t h e r e ‘ in a couple of bars ( the musical sort!) just as soon as it’s heard . ‘Classic’ and both ‘Modern’ songwriting that is unheard of now - and for such a long time . “ Thank You” Alessi Brothers , T h a n k Y o u .
